"Don't Depend on it in a Downpour" 04/17/12
I had high hopes for this jacket - it is packable, well-ventilated and lightweight. Its is great for brief periods of light to moderate rain. But it "wets out" in heavy/sustained rain. Refreshing the dwr doesn't fix the issue. I wear this around town sometimes when I expect intermittent light rain but I don't trust it for backcountry use where there is any possibility I'll be relying on my rain gear to keep me dry. I went back to my heavier gore-tex jacket for extended and wet weather trips and find a lightweight/breathable wind jacket with dwr better for light precipitation.
"Awesome jacket" 03/20/12
This is a fantastic jacket. I have worn it in strait downpours and in little drizzles. I have also worn it as an outer shell (with a fleece underneath) as well as used it as a light jacket for around the city. It has kept me dry and comfortable and I would completely buy it again. It's slightly expensive compared to the North Face Venture, but it is worth every penny. I have friends who got the Venture and are really mad, because it doesn't work nearly as well in waterproofing as the precip.
"Dry I am" 03/02/12
I stay dry in this. It is one of my favorite jackets to lug around or keep in the Jeep as it never lets me down. The only downside is that you can get extremely hot and sticky in it if it is muggy and raining. It shields the air so well, that you can be drenched from your own watering system.
"Best raincoat for the price." 02/15/12
This thing is a great raincoat. It doesn't offer the kind of abrasion protection that GoreTex does but then again it doesn't cost nearly as much as GoreTex either. Add in the ability for it to compress much more than GoreTex and you've got a good product. I believe this raincoat is dead center of the price, weight, volume triangle. Best bang for the buck.
"good, unexpensive rain coat" 02/08/12
This marmot shell works very well for the price. I have had my precip coat for about 4 years, and it still is mostly waterproof. I have washed it many times in the washing machine and the only places that water gets through are around the ends of the sleeves a bit in a hard rain.Overall it has held up pretty well and performed very well for the price. If you want to layer it over another marmot coat (guides down hoody, for example) you will want the precip a size larger than the insulating coat. I'm 6 feet, 160lbs, and a medium fits well.
"I'm so dry..." 01/27/12
This jacket does what it says. I've used it on many backpacking, Mt. biking, and camping trips and it hasn't failed me yet! It's super light and easy to throw in your pack for that unexpected rain shower (or torrential downpour) that is inevitable. It's 100% waterproof and stops the wind as well. I bring it on all of my outdoor adventures in summer and winter and also wear it around town on chilly days. Pit zips keep you from overheating while hiking. I would definitely buy this again!
"Pretty good for the commute to work or for a day hike" 12/24/11
Its pretty good at keeping you dry. Kind of a larger fit (I got a medium, 5'10" 165lbs) but doesnt have the unpleasant feeling that other soft shells have... like youre being baked in warmer summer showers. Aloha.
"Good Rain Jacket For Mild Weather" 12/22/11
This is the kind of jacket that folds up into nothing that you can keep in your pack or briefcase "just in case". Ideal for mild temperatures. Perfect for a boat or a rainy spring day. Fits a little looser than I'd like (got a small, 5'7" 145 lbs) but for the price it does the job well and lives up to the Marmot name. Their soft shells seem to fit closer.I got lucky and nabbed mine with a $51 gift card and found one in brown on sale for $70 from Moosejaw. At full price, I'd consider other options in Northface a little more closely - but for the deal I got, there was no turning back.
"Perfect mild temp rain jacket" 12/04/11
The fit of this jacket is awesome. I'm 5'7 with a little sympathy weight left over from my wife's pregnancy. This jacket is the most slimming thing on me which I own. I used it tons on our honeymoon in Hilo, HI where it rains a LOT and it was awesome. It's thin though, so won't keep you warm. Also, it doesn't offer tons of room for layers underneath. But for its intended use this jacket is great and reasonably priced for Marmot stuff.
