The Marmot Atom 40 Sleeping Bag is the “it” bag for alpinists and spur-of-the-moment road travelers. Hunter S. Thompson totally would have had this bad boy in his trunk. This 850+ fill goose down Marmot sleeping bag has 8 ounces of high quality down hand stuffed into sewn-threw baffles, which helps keep the weight down to 1 pound 5.52 ounces. This warm weather sleeping bag has six baffles around the head for optimal down control and a close fit, along with a conveniently positioned hood cord for easy access. No cold ears with this bag. Along with the overstuffed, insulated draft tube and Velcro-free face muff you’ll find on most Marmot sleeping bags, the Atom 40 also has zipper guards to keep the zipper from eating fabric, a DWR coating and includes both a stuff and storage sack. Marmot started as a sleeping bag company, so they totes know how to kill it when it comes to a comfortable, lightweight down bag.

"Extremely light and compact" 10/15/11
Bought this bag for summer hiking to cut down on my pack weight and it definitely meets those requirements. Compacts to incredibly small size (about the size of a small cantaloupe). My only complaint is i'm not sure if it quite meets its 40 degree rating. I've been a little chilled in the mornings when temps are in the low 50's.
"Great Bag!!!!!" 09/15/11
Used this bag on a section hike on the AT recently. Very light shaved 1 pound off my pack weight from my other bag. love the fabric you don't stick to it after a hard day hiking. warm and breathes well. compresses very small. Don't think about buying this bag just buy it, you will not be sorry. great sleeping bag.
"Very light, compact, and comfortable bag" 03/11/11
I love my Atom sleeping bag. It easily compresses down to the size of a cantaloupe, and weighs very little. The 850 fill down is fluffy as heck, and the material is softer and more supple than my other sleeping bags.I would highly recommend this as a bag for the summer when temps are well above 40° F. I sleep hot, and this thing breathes like a charm. It also works well for sleeping indoors when travelling. You can throw it in your bag and have comfy bedding wherever you go; you won't even notice you have it along. I've even used it as a "liner" on a 20° bag, which has worked well for me in the winter. I really can't imagine a better warm-weather sleeping bag.
"Better than a Wife!" 10/16/10
I can travel with her, hike with her, carry her around and sleep with her. She goes everywhere with me and everyone I know is jealous because they wish they had one too. It's just stupid how nice this thing is. I can carry a smaller bag on multi-day hiking trips thanks to this. It is literally sitting on top of my football right now and the football takes up more space than the bag.
"no where near warm enough" 02/06/10
I seem to freeze in this sleeping bag in any conditions. While Marmot lists it as a 40 degree bag, Marmot lists it as being EN 13537 tested with a comfort rating of 50.5F - which I think is about right. I've managed to get it close to 40F with a liner, but was cold all night.I strongly suggest spending the extra money and buying a western mountainering bag instead (higher quality and true to their warmth rating)
"Gives you the warm and fuzzies...without all the weight." 08/20/08
It's actually kinda funny how light weight and tiny it is stuffed....like a small cat in there or something. Just buy it. You'll love it and never need another bag for spring, summer, or really even fall. I've got this one and the Lithium 0 degree and my life is complete. That's pretty sad, yeah.
"yes" 07/24/08
comfortable at 38 degrees with a light layer of clothing the first night out with this. its been love ever since. lightest bag ive ever felt. the only thing i could ask for is a water resistant shell but thats what the marmot arete is for i guess.
"If you are looking for a warm season bag, this is the one!" 04/15/08
Backpacker Magazine was right when they gave this bag praise in their latest issue. It specs out exactly as listed, and is by far the most coozy bag I've ever used. If you are looking for a warm season bag, this is the one!
"Good stuff!" 02/25/08
This bag is super light and its comfy temp is a little less than the 40 stated. I feel I would be alright with a base layer down to 32 but have not got a chance to test at that temp yet. The bag is very well made. No loose stitching! This seasons biggest improvement is the full length zipper. I love it!
