The Marmot Men's Aegis Jacket. We've combined superior weather beating performance with a wealth of creature comforts to create the Aegis jacket. MemBrain Strata fabric sheds water and breathes easily to keep you dry. Hand warmer pockets featuring water resistant zippers, DriClime lined collar and cuffs, PitZips, and an adjustable hood that rolls into the collar, all add up to an essential backcountry companion.
Used this and a fleece much of this last winter here in Kansas City and with many extremely cold windy days as we had i though i would need more, but was definitely satisfied with its performance. it slides well under my pack so it never bunched up and got annoying while out hiking. my only complaint is that the shoulders are a little bit narrow, but as mine are a lot wider than most it fit fairly well. on a normal sized and proportioned person it would be a perfect shell for whatever your sport or pastime. The pit zips provide good ventilation and the pockets are nice sized. Not really sure what the sleeve pocket would be good for, but others may have a good use for it
"The Aegis is a great jacket for everyday use as well as cold weather/ rainy day adventuring."
This jacket is very nice. I ordered a large at 5'9" 212 and it fits me very well. It's kept me dry in this rain/snow that hit during the thanksgiving holiday, and I look forward to it holding up for a long time.
so far, i've worn this jacket in some pretty heavy rain and gusty afternoons and it's worked perfectly. soon i'll be able to wear it in snow and see how that works- i'm sure it'll do fabulously. it's super light and thin so i can strap it to my backpack if the weather clears up, then just as easily put it back on when it pours again. the quality is excellent- i haven't had a leak in it yet and the water streams off so well that my pants get extra soaked. the upper arm pocket is perfect for sunglasses or a phone and is, as far as i can tell, watertight. I'm 6'3", about 220 (with pretty wide shoulders) and the XL fits perfectly. i'd highly recommend it.
Have worn this now in at least half a dozen sustained downpours and it continues to keep me completely dry. I've had things inside the pocket which have become damp from the overall humidity but not from any rain soaking through.Pros - very economical price, good looks/fit and nice feel to the fabric (slightly soft to the touch and not too stiff). Yes the fleece touches at neck and cuffs are toasty when it's cool out.Cons - hood construction is a little weird and, unless tightened, can flop into your face
This is the best non-gore-tex (yes, triple hyphenated word) rain jacket. For the price, this jacket has everything you would want. It's comfortable, lightweight, decently breathable. Oh and it's completely water proof. More comfort than the precip which is why I chose this model.I think the only complaint is the breathability. Hiking or doing strenuous activities will make you sweat in this. The pit zips help but you will get warm. Gore-tex coats are more breathable, but also much more costly. Best coat for your money.
"Really well made shell that deserves recognition"
So I struggled with finding the perfect light weight shell for my three season romps in the woods. This shell came highly recommended by a number of customers as well as Outdoor Magazine. I ordered this jacket and was not surprised by how well it's made and the attention to detail that Marmot has with its peices of equipment. You can't go wrong with this jacket as long as you are comfortable without the convenience of a Napoleon pocket.
"Pretty sweet rain jacket, and almost infallibly waterproof"
Withstands the rain much better than most, if highly breathable and warm.. My only real complaint with this jacket is that the cuffs don't tighten enough for smaller wrists (so your arms could get wet from drips going down your sleeves). Other than that, I could not be more pleased with this jacket. It packs down very well, looks cool, and is comfortable. The seam sealed pockets are really nice, and the collar is very soft.
I special ordered the XL Tall and was super excited with it fit perfectly. That never happens for me (6'5'' guy that's gotten use to making due on gear fit). Only complaint is that my wife washed / dried (on low heat as recommended) my jacket and it shrunk considerably. So my perfect hit can't even be zipped up. Don't put this jacket in the dryer!
Wonderful breathability and sheds rain like a champ! For $150, its hard to find a jacket that breaths so well and is so water resistant. The fleece lined arm tips and neck are a very nice touch. All the pocket zippers are waterproof but the extra pocket near the shoulder seems a little unnecessary to me as it is small and reduces mobility when anything is in the pocket. Other than that, this is a wonderful shell that was well worth the purchase!
