If you’re looking for a classic, ultra-light sleeping bag, look no further than the Marmot Hydrogen 30. This 30 degree sleeping bag is filled and finished in Santa Rosa, CA with 11 ounces of high loft, certified 850+ goose down. This Marmot sleeping bag has a classic look with a full-length zipper and stretch tricot, full baffle construction. The baffles allow for some down shifting, so feel free to push a little extra down toward your cold spots, while the stretch tricot makes this down sleeping bag almost bombproof (we’re talking tons of strength and durability). Marmot took more control of down shifting when it came to the head by adding a six chambered Nautilus hood to provide a close, cush fit. This 3-season sleeping bag comes equipped with an overstuffed, insulated draft tube, Velcro-free face muff, snag-killing zipper guards, DWR coating and you even get a stuff and storage sack. The Marmot Hydrogen 30 Sleeping Bag is sure to become your old standby for cool weather adventures, spontaneous sleepovers or nights out on the lawn.

"The most efficient use of down, nylon, and a zipper."  02/15/12

Short of getting a custom tailored bag this is going to be the best use of $$ per warmth while being weight and volume conscious. It packs down to the size of a little bit bigger than a softball and weighs less than 2lbs. In case you don't already know, that's ridiculous...and awesome.

"My first down sleeping bag - a fan forever more!"  10/31/11

This is a review of the 2007 model. Used 100+ nights.I was a bit weary as to whether a bag weighing as little as this could keep me warm or not. Turnes out I didn't have to worry. In the buff, using only a silk liner, I slept like a baby down to about 0 C. At -5 C I slept, but woke up cold a few times during the night. The temp rating seems to be accurate.I had my bag sort of ruined when I had it cleaned by a "pro" who didn't know what he was doing. He didn't dry it properly, so the down got clumped. Having it cleaned again, by someone who knew what they were doing, it's almost OK again, but is now only warm down to about 5 C. So, make sure your cleaner REALLY knows what he is doing.

"Great Sleeping Bag for Backpacking"  10/18/11

I got the long because I am 6'-3", 210 lbs and it is a very comfortable fit. I considered the mountain hardware phantom series of sleeping bags and chose this one due to the extra width in the shoulders and hips. So far I have slept under the stars in this bag in 40 degree F and was very comfortable with just shorts on. I use the XS Sea to Summit eVent compression dry sack for packing and it squishes down to the size of a volleyball. The zipper is full length, but it does not unzip the foot box. I wear a US size 13 Men's shoe and the foot box is plenty big enough. The bag does ventilate very well in warmer weather.

"Better Bags Available"  07/29/11

I used this bag for a 10 day trek, with temperatures as low as 40 degrees. I was warm almost every night except one, when it rained. Condensation dripped on the end of the bag by my feet, and it was cold the rest of the night. That wasn't a huge problem however. It was incredibly light for a 30 degree bag, and packs down to a very small size. I would recommend buying the ems velocity instead, an ounce more but it's synthetic.

"Awesome Bag!"  01/11/11

I purchased this bag last spring, and wanted to use it for an entire season before I cast my judgement. Bottom lines: Durability, Despite the bags thin light weight shell material, it has held up to several nights in the bivy sack, several more in a tent, zipper snags (operator error), and a couple nights on a friends floor with my dog. The marmot rep also informed me that they keep shell material on hand for every bag they have ever made at the repair shop, just incase! Temp Rating, as other reviews mentioned Marmots bags are independently rated, personally used the bag comfortably into the mid 20's. Roominess, the regular has plenty of space for me (5'11" 170lbs) and some clothes.

"reliable temp rating, compresses to smaller than your head"  12/28/10

Marmot makes great stuff - unlike some manufacturers they test their products with an outside lab (in Norway I think) and provide an standardized EN temp rating. The result is a bag that is true to it's temp rating. With a compression sack it shrinks to smaller than your head. Mine at least...My only complaint is the continuous baffle which is a blessing and a curse - because you can shift the down around 360 degrees in the bag you can make it warmer or colder. The flipside to that is if you use the bag a lot (think through-hiking) you're going to have to keep adjusting the down to eliminate cold spots. Great for the weight conscious.

"The best sleeping bag I've ever owned"  11/04/09

I spent a long time searching for a replacement sleeping bag and this one won my money. It is an extremely light and compressible bag that is very comfortable to sleep in. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the trapezoidal foot box fit my feet. This bag keeps me warmer and weighs less than my old synthetic bag, and when taken care of properly, will last me a lifetime.

"Great 40 degree bag but not 30 degree"  08/12/09

I wanted an ultralight down bag, comfortable to 30°, to camp at 12,000 foot elevations in the summer. The 30° Marmot Hydrogen seemed to fit the bill. On 2 nights it got down to 37°. It was a cold night’s sleep. On Marmot's website they rate the bag 39.2° for a comfortable night’s sleep, 30° at the lower limit. While I would have made it at 30°, it wouldn’t have been a good night’s sleep. I like everything about the bag except being cold. I am going to get the Marmot Helium, a 15° bag with a comfort rating of 27.7°. These are both great bags but if you like to sleep warm in high country summers and do ultralight backpacking, go for the extra 4 oz of down and get the Helium.
