The Mammut Men's Ultimate Hoody is a Windstopper softshell jacket for hiking and climbing. The softshell three layer blocks wind and a light rain or snow in all seasons. The thumbloops pull the sleeves over your hands for additional warmth and when not in use, close up completely at your forearm, not allowing wind to penetrate. The close fitting hood cinches tight from the inside, preventing wind from catching the cords. The two hand pockets and single chest pocket zip shut, securing personal items close by, without getting in the way of your pack. The Ultimate stops the wind so you can enjoy your hike.

Truly the Ultimate Softshell HoodyI've finally found the perfect combination of best-in-class technical functionality and a cool looking jacket that I can wear around town. Probably the best part of this jacket is how much you can adjust the degree of warmth and coverage to conditions. Both the pit zips and front zip have two way zippers so you can open up the bottom near your waist if desired. In addition, the Hood fits perfectly, although not built for a helmet, and I'm personally a huge fan of the thumb holes. The windstopper fabric does its job adequately (yes, it's truly windproof) and the DWR finish is comparable to similar products from competitors. I'm 5'8", 140 lbs and the small fits well.

Great mid-layer, but not really "ultimate".Performs great under a shell when the wind is blowing snow or rain. Love the thumb loops even if they are only useful for keeping sleeves in place while pulling a shell over top.The large has a nice trim fit on me (6'2" 200lbs). Seems sturdy and durable. Maybe in time I will find a reason why the pit zips extend to the hip, but IMO the zips could be 6" shorter and still vent as well. I was bummed to find no drawcord at the hem as shown on Moosejaw's product page. A drawcord seems like a key feature for a wind pro layer to me and I considered returning it, but since I got a good price from Moosejaw, I'll keep it as a midlayer when it's windy/cold/damp OR an outer layer if it's windy/mild/dry.

Old model was much better.I lost my 2009 model and replaced it with this new one. It's just terribly redesigned, and I will explain why. The FIT has been slimmed down by several inches, sleeves also slimmer and longer than before. Size up on this one for sure, and if you have a tall/skinny body type then this will fit nicely. Muscular/larger build individuals will not fit right in this jacket. ,,,,The biggest flaw in this new design is the full side zippers. They're not well made zippers, tiny little choppy things as are the pockets and main zip. Quality went down so much I can't even begin to explain. Back it went.

Great jacket but sizing is a bit offI love this jacket, I originally saw it on my trip to Switzerland but it was way too expensive. Moosejaw came to save the day, and got it when I came back to the US for a better price.,,The sizing on this jacket is a bit tight, I am 5'9" 180 (Athletic build not butterball) and the XL fit great on my shoulders/back but the sleeves were way too long, even taking into account the thumb loops. I got the L instead and the sleeves fit much better but it is a bit on the tight side for me. I guess will not be able to layer it but had to go with the least of 2 evils and picked the L at the end. If you have a muscular/athletic build keep that in mind..you could size up but then the sleeves can become an issue if you don't have long arms..

Yes, I would recommend this to a friendBought this for my bf because he's a hardcore climbing junkie who enjoys quality/light weight products on his adventures. During his trip to Aconcagua, he decided not to pack anything with a hood because he thought it would unnecessary weight to his pack. However, he realized the err of his ways and was looking for the perfect hoodie to take on his next trip. He was highly impressed with the quality, amount of pockets/zippers, and weightless feel of the fabric. It fits like a glove. Also, I now have the title of best gf in the world!

Great styling and function!I wear the medium and I am 5'9" 160 lbs with broad shoulders. I would call it the perfect fit for allowing a thin downy or fleece without feeling bulky or looking overblown when worn with only a t shirt. The Ultimate is very light, so do not look to it for insulation below the 50s if not in the middle of aerobic activity. The hood fits very well WITHOUT a helmet, so keep that in mind. The material can prone to snags, so I reserve more abrasive activities like climbing and thorn-bush-wacking for my Super Hero.

Does its job perfectlyPositive: Very lightweight Windstopper jacket with all the sweet features you would want (thumb loops, adjustable hood, pit-zip to the hip, etc). I can fit one of my light down insulated jacket under it no problem.,,,,Negative: Zipper is on the opposite side than the North American jackets, also, can feel a little tight under the pits when stretched though I have a slightly larger chest for my size.,,,,Size: Medium, 5'9.5", athletic 165.
