The Mammut Men's Masao Jacket is a hardshell jacket for alpine climbing and backpacking. The Masao uses a three layer fabric called DRYtech, which is slightly stretchy and 100% waterproof to keep you dry and comfortable in wet weather. The underarms feature pit zips, with water resistant zippers, for fast ventilation when the inside temperature heats up. The inside of the jacket has a mesh pocket with zipper for keeping small items close by and protected. The outside features dual hand pockets that won't get in the way of your harness or pack and a chest pocket with media port. The helmet compatible hood cinches horizontally and vertically, keeping your hair dry while maintaining peripheral vision on the mountain.

Great fit; performance optimal so far.I have had this jacket for several months so far; I have enjoyed it thoroughly. ,,The Masao fits me quite well, I am 6'2", 170 lbs, and an XL is perfect. Many American manufactures do not excel in the tall-and-not-fat department; Mammut has done well with the dimensions for this piece, and likely others. ,,The jacket is designed well: the fully-taped seams and zippers keep water out as designed, and the high collar has two fleece panels on the interior which feel more pleasant against one's face than does a zipper. ,,My only concern is the waterproofing. Initially, the exterior beaded water dandily; now, moisture is somewhat retained - I think and hope, however, that this is only due to the layer of dust it has recently collected - something that can easily be remedied. ,,Overall, I would recommend this shell to someone in the market.

Awesome jacketBought this on a rainy day last summer in Hamburg, Germany, because my jacket was leaking like a sieve. It was on sale, which made up for the fact that I wasn't crazy about the royal blue-and-yellow colorway – but that's definitely grown on me. I've been wearing it the past week in Boston winter nastiness, on the trail as well as bike commuting. With just a layer or two it's been great for 25-30º. Can't speak to the durability, per se, but there's no sign that I'll have any issues soon. Not a pulled thread in sight so far, and the DWR is still going strong.
Negatives: could be more packable; main zipper sticks a little; stiff fabric bunches a bit around the middle when seated, biking, and with pack hipbelts.
More positives: fantastic weather protection; really nice fabric feel; comfortable fit and lots of stretch in the shoulders; really nice, big pockets (handwarmer and internal, including phone/audio pocket that fits an iPhone 6); versatile, 3-way adjustable hood that fits comfortably over a helmet. Also, looks pretty slick.

Swiss quality!Never disappoints! Swiss design and quality - just wonderful. Using this for cross country skiing and also as a wind breaker on rainy days. I've added this to my Mammut collection of jackets, shells, pants, backpacks,...
