Rated 4 out of 5 by from This stove burns anything, anywhere with great heat output I've owned the MSR xgk ex for 2 years. This stove will burn anything and it does so well. It folds up nicely to a compact size however you must also have the fuel bottle and the pump to make it burn. Not the best stove for the quick summer trip but it will do the job and do it well. This stove is designed for the higher altitudes, the cold and the wind. In those harsh conditions the extra ounces of equipment and fuel will pay for itself the first time it's fired up. This stove outperforms all others in versatility and speed. I use it for all my mountaineering, and cold weather camping. I would recommend it to any serious outdoorsman.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essesntial !!! I have many stoves, probably 5 ranging from a pocket rocket to the XGK. Selecting a stove comes down to the age old saying the right tool for the right job, but when it comes to the XGK it’s like a multi-tool in your toolbox. I’m fairly involved with Medical Rescue and would rarely venture out without at least one XGK in my group. Besides cooking it makes an excellent heater in inclement weather. The XGK (x3) is also in my Urban Search and Rescue cache because of the multi-fuel capability along with the ease of not traveling with canisters. This should be the gold standard for any rescue team!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Superb for heating rapidly, also superbly loud! I have an earlier model XGK (purchased in 1998), and also a DragonFly (purchased in 2007). I use the DragonFly most of the time, because its heat output can be controlled so that food doesn't burn and pots don't boil over; the XGK is either on full blast or off. I do mean full blast--it's got to be the loudest backpacking stove made! However, once the DragonFly plugged up, and the XGK pulled me through. Both of these are multi-fuel stoves, but I've only used white gas (Coleman fuel) in them. Both are excellent for their respective purposes, the XGK for boiling water; the DragonFly for controlled cooking. If either gets so damaged that it's not repairable, I'll replace it with the current model, they're that good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dependable Workhorse I love this stove. Can count on it on a windy shoreline or when damp and cold. And it doesn't take up space because it nests quite nicely in my Alpine 2 pot set. Works best and most efficiently with MSR naptha. Lightweight, rugged and reliable. Easy to light. With a bit of finese, the output can be adjusted but I'm usually just boiling water with this little jet engine. On one occasion, I had to use kerosene. Worked fine but smelled quite strong unlike the MSR fuel. But it got me out of a jam. I now carry a 20 oz spare bottle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked when we needed it most! I purchased this stove in '05 and have used it numerous times on backpacking and canoe trips as well as winter camping. I have run several fuels including diesel and sadly whisky. On our last canoe trip we endured severe flooding and several unplanned swims. At the end of the day when everything we had was soaked, and after spending several hours submerged in a gear bag, this stove lit and ran flawlessly, heating some soup that warmed our souls. Thanks MSR for building such a dependable and adaptable product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bomb Proof Simply the best their is, no other way to put it. Pretty sure you could put used motor oil in this stove's fuel bottle and it would still figure out a way to cook your food with it. For the best, most durable, and most versatile expedition stove out there, look no further than the XGK, slightly heavier than a whisperlite and more expensive, but worth it for when it matters the most. Partner this with the new reactor stove system or a superfly and you have the best cooking setup on the market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bomb proof and essential I recently took ownership of one of MSR's Marine and Military XGK stoves intended for active duty personnel. I am not sure exactly what nuances and differences there are on materials vs the original, although I know it has 2 jets intended for use on different fuel types. I can say, though, that this stove is absolutely bomb proof. It's well designed, simple, robust, and the quality is definitely there on the manufacture and build. I e used other stoves and gadgetS, but keep coming back tho MSR for their superb design and practical application of small fathered that really make a good bit of difference. I'd reccomend the XGK EX series of stoves to anyone who needs or wants something that will last and pull through when needed. Thanks guys! Pumped to try the new water filter next! Hehe "pumped" about the water filters. Oh yes!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from trustfull and reliable We used it a hundred times in one month and had no problem.Very strong and reliable heater ! We never had problem with GKX during our expedition in Greenland. Really easy to clean. Better if you use white fuel made for (no black smoke) but work with all type SP95, Gazoline... Only one negative point: impossible to use it at low flow like Gaz heater. It work all time between medium and high flow. It is a very technical product, so every camper cannot use it...
