"Love this stove!" 05/23/13
I got this stove for a christmas present and absolutely love it! I use it for everything from hardcore backpacking to concert camping (hello bonnaroo!). I've even gotten in trouble for using it in a dorm room-- fun police says you can't make s'mores on campus. It's super light , folds up easily and it works with most fuel types. I haven't had any trouble using it, which is good because I am generally fairly camp-stove incapable.
"Super-adjustable hot flamethrower!" 05/29/12
Have used this on only one outing, but I had 2 liters of water boiling before the others in our group had their MSR Dragonfly lit!Assuming you're on a stable base (solid ground, picnic table), large pots are pretty stable for a canister stove. Flame is adjustable enough to boil water or keep food warm without burning. The large burner seems to help spread the heat evenly when cooking versus just heating water.Only downside I've noticed is it isn't as compact or light as some other stoves, but I'll sacrifice an ounce or so for the versatility to cook real meals.I haven't tested it with fuel other than MSR containers, but like the flexibility to use various types of cans.
"Great product, but a few small problems" 11/25/11
I am very happy with the Superfly so far. I use it for larger group backpacking or camping trips, and it works great for cooking for a larger group (4 to 6) people. The Superfly isa great deal (priced at 60 dollars). The only thing that I have not liked so far is that the arms that come out have been a little wobbly after the stove was used a few times. This is just slightly annoying but the stove still functions well.
"Pocket-sized flamethrower that quickly kicks out the heat!" 06/08/11
Bought this for use on Scout backpacking trips. Haven't tested with fuel other than MSR, but it really kicks out the heat!Pros- Folds small, though not as small as the Pocket Rocket- Had this set up and lit before others had the top off their fuel bottle- Adjustable flame control works very well- The large burner surface heats for evenly than the smaller stovesCons- Need to find a fairly level surface on which to place it, otherwise, you'll be eating dinner from a natural earth plate- Included storage bag is cavernous (not sure this is a con, but MSR should downsize the bagOverall, a great value. Can't speak to longevity, but other reviewers have given it high marks.
"This or the Pocket Rocket?" 03/31/11
This stove is roughly equivalent in cooking power to the MSR Pocket Rocket, but weighs a couple ounces more due to the pot supports (Superfly: 4, beefy; PR: 3, not so beefy.) The choice depends on how you cook. With a small pot, boiling a quart of water at a time, the PR is a good choice (my solo kitchen is the PR and Titan Kettle.) With larger, full pots - typical group situation - get the Superfly. The 4 supports are less likely to let the pot tip, and the beefier construction means no collapse. With larger pots, you will want an MSR Universal Canister stand, too, for more stability. (My small group kitchen is this stove, Titan 2-pot set, and the canister stand.)
"Easy to use, lightweight, all purpose backpacking stove" 12/04/10
I recently took this stove's talents to the Grand Canyon. It heated water and cooked food for 5 of us for 3 days while backpacking. It was super easy to use, lightweight, and the fuel for it was also easy to find and attached really easily. The burner has a large area, so its a good all purpose backpacking stove. It can be used to heat water as well as do some cooking.
"Easy to use" 11/12/10
Stoves don't get much simpler than this. It's easy to set up, easy to light, and the simmer feature is awesome. I've only had it for two years, but the simplicity gives me confidence that it will last for a long time. It's really small - I can pack it inside my bowl so it doesn't take any extra room in my pack.
"Solid Stove for Superb Simmering (That's Alliteration)" 10/29/10
I looked at other cannister stoves, but I wasn't impressed by most of the one trick pony blowtorches out there. Sure, it's nice to have boiling water quickly after you been hiking your A off, but sometimes you just need to slow it down a little and let things simmer. That's where the Superfly comes in. It has no problem simmering and it can still get down to business and melt your face off. It's awesome. The stove head is a little bigger so it can't fit in super small places like the Pocket Rocket, but I've found you can unscrew the top for storage and then screw it back on for party time. To sum it up you can't go wrong with this piece of Superfly TNT.
"Perfectly simple." 09/23/10
Very simple to use, but pretty much ineffective unless you are simply boiling. Perfect for my cooking style, but not much control over flame and flame is somewhat unequal.I personally give it 50 gold stars, but presumably if you consider yourself a backcountry gourmet you may want to spend a little more.
"Okay--but no better than the PocketRocket." 01/06/10
Nice stove. Boils fast. Fits into my MSR cookware easily. Very dependable. Most of my friends have pocketrockets....And I still can't tell what the superfly has over the pocketrocket. I should have saved money and bought the pocketrocket, since there is little to no noticable difference.
