"Best compact stove money can buy!" 12/29/11
This stove is great! its small and lite, boils a Lt of water pretty quick. I use it all year round, sometimes when it is really cold it has problems working tho (-20C) when winter camping. but other then that it is great. easy to operate and almost dummy free. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to shed some pounds in their pack.
"Wish it was a wee bit smaller" 12/17/11
Having the self starter is nice, but lets be real, you can't rely on it and who really goes hiking without matches/lighter/flint? It's great for 3 season hikes & winter hikes where the temperature sits above 20 degrees. these Isopropane canisters suck when the temp drops. the best way to improve its efficiency is to have a thermos of hot water & put the whole setup in a 1/2 inch of warm water. that REALLY gets it going like they are supposed to. otherwise they are junk in sub 20 temps. pros:-light-adjustable flame-good pot stabiltycons:-poor efficiency in temps sub 20F
"there are MUCH better alternatives" 05/24/11
well, this isn't a bad product in any sense. i love all things MSR. but you could, for a few more bucks go for the more high end models. this model 1) only takes these annoying canisters 2) don't take gasses like gasoline and karosine like the other models do. but if youre a superlight backpacker, yeah this is totally for you. i mean, this is one of the ways i sacrifice weight for comfort.
"Great stove for the money!" 05/16/11
I have owned this stove for a few years now and have used it quite a bit. It still works perfectly and I have no complaints. I have also owned a MSR pocket rocket and find with this stove its easier to use with bigger pots / pans. I also find you have more control over cooking temp with this stove which is nice when your actually cooking food instead of just boiling water. The auto start is a nice additional feature and has always worked. I have cooked with it in the wind and although it does work it increases cooking time and wastes more fuel. If you are often in windy environments consider a cooking shield or better yet the MSR reactor. Overall a nice stove that gets the job done.
"Great, easy to use, lightweight stove!!" 08/04/10
This stove speaks for itself when being used. It is very easy to operate and lights easily. I have used it in very windy conditions and the actual flame still performed like a pro. When using larger pots in the wind though, I was very nervous that the pot may blow off. I did hold the pot handle on one occasion to stabilize it. Every time I have used it, I have had at least one other person mention that they wanted to purchase one just like it. Even though there is a carrying bag that comes with the stove (in which you can fit the stove and one 8 oz. fuel canister) it still seems quite fragile so keep it on top in your pack.
"Good stove" 07/06/10
This stove burns well and seems to fit most fuel canisters. My only gripe is that it is not very collapsible. The metal wings just fold together and I'm always afraid the sharp points are going to pierce something (or me) in my pack. But otherwise it heats efficiently and is very easy to use.
"Small, yet it gets'r'done" 04/29/10
I really don't have any gripes with this thing. The auto start works like a charm and it boils water surprisingly fast. The small design is great for light backpacking or taking to the crag. I've set this thing up in pouring rain and it always ignites instantly.
"Light, Fast, and Sexy!!!" 09/06/08
After over packing for a one week trip, it was nice to keep something for the next trip instead of throwing it in the trash. This stove is quick lighting and puts out a butt-load of heat. Zero to burn your arm hair off in less then two seconds. I would recommend this product to everyone big, small, or green. Bottom line this product ROCKS!!!!
