"great to cook in and pretty darn light" 05/09/12
I just got this cookset and took it out on a three-day backpacking trip. I was really very pleased with its performance and packability. I left the nonstick smaller pot at home, which lightened the load quite a bit. The accessory pieces (plates/bowls, mugs) were all very functional for meals on the trail. I liked the folding handle very much; it kept cool...no need for a potholder of any kind. The capacity is great. You could probably easily cook a meal for four or more in the larger pot. I'm thinking about getting the MSR Quick skillet to go with the set (pancakes, anyone?). I would definitely recommend this set for anyone's next backpacking trip.
"Good set, very compact. Mugs need a new design." 04/01/12
I like this set- it's very neatly compact. On some trips for two I think you can probably leave a few pieces behind and use the extra space for food storage. The plate/bowls are cool, the detaching/folding handle for the pots is excellent and the pots are pretty easily cleaned. My biggest (and only) complaint is that the mug tops don't really latch in, they just fit on top and will tumble off if the cup tips. While cleaning out the tent, my boyfriend knocked my mug with tea over, and rather than having a small manageable spill from the spout, the whole thing emptied onto the floor.
"Best cook set I have ever owned" 01/30/12
If you backpack regularly and have a camping stove then this cook set is for you, it comes with everything you need except utensils. The set is extremely light and compressed for easy storage. Don't know how I ever did without.
"Great compact durable AND space saving cookset" 06/14/11
I got this along with the MSR pocket rocket stove a few years ago. I'm not a backpacker, but I do camp TONS. Especially at summer music festivals around the country. This cookset was perfect for a few reasons. one, it allowed me to cook my own meals. thus saving me money, since I didnt have to buy $10 burritos at these events. second, its extremely compact. space is always an issue when loading a car full of people and their gear. Since this cook set packs up into a neat and tidy SMALL package, it was perfect for my needs. It is also extremely durable. Tons of use and it is still going strong!
"Great set-up for two people , just add silverware and you are good to go!" 06/08/11
This is a pretty good compact set up to take along with you, it includes plates, cups, and a pot to cook your food in. The handle folds up over the lid to lock everything in place and the lid really helps keep the heat in while cooking. With the extra space in with the cups (while its all packed up), I have a couple of the MSR salt and pepper shakers, and filled one with garlic and Red Robin Seasoning which is delicious on anything! and a scraper with a few other kitchen items which makes more room in your pack for other gear. I just wish everything was titanium for even lighter weight.
"great product, with some minor yet irritating flaws." 04/16/11
I really like the way this kit fits into itself, the non-stick pots are really great. The first problem I had was with the mugs. When used with hot liquid, the metal inserts would warp and the tops would become real loose and fall out. You could push from both sides and bend them back in, but over time, I think it would eventually break them. The other issue I had was with the plastic plate/bowls. The inside is textured and holds grease after something like spaghetti has been in them. You really have to scrub to get them clean. It's just minor stuff, but I thought I would give a heads up so others wouldn't be disappointed when they bought it.
"Awesome product" 03/25/11
This is an extremely great compact cookware set. The two pots that it comes with is clutch for having two different things being made such as pasta and sauce for example. It folds down perfectly and it very light. I am able to fit my compact stove in as well which also saves on space. Very good product.
"This set is good for all of my needs" 01/17/11
I bought this pot on the recommendation of a very experienced backpacker. I have found that it is great for me, as I usually take freeze dried foods and boil water mainly. The best thing is that depending on what you take with you you can fit most MSR stoves inside the stove for extra space in your pack. This is very helpful for beginner backpackers because we tend to pack way too much stuff.
"If you have two mouths to feed, buy this." 09/20/10
This is a great set. Everything nests together inside the big pot and if you take out the cups and little pot, you can fit an MSR whisperlite international inside too. Everything is well made, the pots are light weight aluminum and the handle clips to the pots and makes burning yourself very unlikely. The big pot can boil 2 liters so you can use it to purify water or, in combination with the strainer in the lid, make a ton of spaghetti. In my opinion, one of the best parts is the two bowl/plates, they are super light, prevent spills and are super easy to clean and dry because they have a magic surface that nothing will stick to and water rolls right off.
"Good set that fits into itself" 08/04/10
I like this cook set other than the fact that it seems a little heavy for me. I love the fact that the plates double as bowls and the mugs fit perfectly inside. I also purchased two of the MSR folding sporks (one in red and one in black) and they fold and fit perfectly into the mugs. There is ample room for some spices and whatever else you may want to throw inside. If you want to cut down a little on the weight you can always leave the smaller pan at home and take just the outside one.
"Perfect for two. Saves a lot of space for so much functionnality." 08/02/10
I bought this product mainly for camping and hiking and I was not disappointed. The nesting design is a real space saver and very intuitive to pack.- Great size for the cooking pots : fits well even on a small stove. Also like the fact that only the small one is non-stick.- I like that the lid fits on both pots. Also, it works quite well as a strainer.- The bowls, with their flat bottom, can be used as well as plates or bowls.- At first, the shape of the mugs made me suspicious but it was not founded : they're easy to drink with and I love that they are insulated. Great to keep the coffee warm and the fingers cold...My complaint : would have liked to have a bag for transport.
"Perfect for 2" 06/09/10
I've used this several times now, and I'm so glad I went with this set. The non-stick put works great with potatoes and eggs, while the larger pot boils water in no time. Fits evenly on my MSR Whisperlite International. Mugs keep my coffee warm on chilly mornings, and the bowls work great for my dinner mush or just holding some snacks while relaxing at camp. Lightweight and compact lets it fit perfectly snug in my ruck. MSR foldable fork/spoon fits in the mugs for efficiency.MSR is the way to go.
