I am purchasing these a second tent. These stakes are a great replacement to the flimsy stakes that come with most tents. They are strong, light and can be pounded into just about anything. They are, however, not perfect. While I have never bent one putting them in, I have broken a few of them once they are in by tripping/kicking them. They do the trick, but aren't indestructible, so you do need to take a little caution with them. They also are so skinny, and have such a small hook on the end, that they can be a little difficult to take out, especially if you pound them into a tree root (which they will go into) or between some rocks.
I got these to replace the crap stakes that come with all tents, and I adore them. They're strong (I haven't managed to bend one yet), light, and best of all, red! It's hard to lose your stakes when they're fire-engine red. Two thumbs up.
I got an msr tent with the triple fin stakes. They are great for most conditions but these will easily go into frozen ground and I've even been successful in getting them into tree roots. I like having a variety of stakes for different conditions. Buy some!
Ever get generic stakes with a mid-class tent that bend under the slightest of pressure from ground that is not ultra soft? You know the ones, where you ask why in the heck a tent company would go out of its way to charge $300 for your two-person tent and then turn around only to give you stakes that are not pointy or are simply made of cheap aluminum. The kind where your fingers turn red while you try to force them into the soil with no luck and then are left with using your foot or hammer to push them in. Of course this is where they meet their doom and fold in half. Don't you hate that!!! I know I do and thats why I love these. There is none of that with these. Definitely worth getting!
