"Great for inclined surfaces" 07/03/11
All around awesome snowshoe! Very well thought out design that works perfectly on fresh powder or older, wetter snowpack especially climbing steeper hills with the locking ascent assist bar. Lightweight for snowshoes, buckles are durable and the rubber webbing has not torn or cracked in two winters of using them. Only down side is the 'crampon' style frame. They tore my gore-tex shell pants...so be careful!
"Great floatation, even better on icy slopes" 04/22/11
I These things are awesome. The frame and all of the teeth they provide great traction on packed snow and even ice.I was a bit hesitant because I couldn’t put tails on this model to hike in fluffy powder. I’m 6’0, 180 and with a pack, can push the limits of a 26" shoe. I was proved wrong this winter when snowshoeing in 6 inches of fresh stuff without a problem. The elevators are also awesome when going up steep slopes or powder. I’ve used several snowshoes in the past and by far, these are the most versatile.
"Fastest Shoes in Market, but could be improved" 02/28/10
These snowshoes move fast. The full-framed crampon style snoeshoe is a fantastic idea. They realy excel in packed snow but are great performers in powder as well. Keep in mind that I have a couple complaints. First, the frame is made out of aluminum. This keeps them very light but are prone to damage if you come across rocks. It is the correct material for the job, but they are not bomb-proof. Second, the bindings are made to fit any boot size. This keeps them very versitile, but they often shift around slightly. If you're not careful, your foot can slip forward so that your boot rubs up against the black part. I find myself adjusting the bindings constantly.
"Works for me .... great shoes !" 02/10/10
I have used the 25 inch snowshoes over; frozen rivers, Adirondack trails and deep snow .... Best for hard pack or trails, too small for deep powder though. Worked great, holds boots snugly, very good traction on ice and hills plus .... able to accomodate huge boots . Glad I bought them highly reccomended
"Just because these are space-aged, does not mean you are." 12/22/09
Up until recently, I was an Atlas snow shoe man, when in Germany a friend put me in the dust( snow actually) going up the side of something steep and rocky. How did he do it? Well it was not his stellar beer gut or smokers lung. You guessed it, the MSR Lightning Ascent made him throw that hurtin' on me. I just had to wait to justify this purchase, so from here on out, it's my bad should I fail. I'm 6'4", 225 and the 25" I feel work great for all around. Yeah the 30"s would probably be real nice come Colorado, but the other 95% of the time my size will do. Another great product by MSR.
"Necessary if your feet are not sasquatch sized" 12/14/09
These are the best snowshoes/best friend I have ever had. These have serrations that cover 360 degree range to prevent backsliding on technical slopes. If that is not enough to sway you they also come equipped with a fantastic crampon built into the toe.
"the best snowshoes on the market" 12/11/09
these are the lightest, most durable (with the best traction/crampon), most comfortable, and easiest to put on snowshoes available. my girlfriend has raved about these for years and i finally broke down and bought them after dealing with crap pair(s). i would never consider going with another brand--MSR rocks!
"Fast but not lighting fast...but working on it" 08/14/09
Wow, these snowshoes are great. The Televator heel is worth it, snowsheing with an elevation gain of 800 ft in 0.6 miles, the Televator saves your legs. I decided to rehike that section again without the heel up and I wont be making that mistake again! Great fit and easy to use.
"Buy in confiance. Just the best!" 03/04/08
Bought these based on user feedback and MSR top notch products. Although I was sceptical about the locking shoe straps, I found it very easy to put on and off. Works bloody good. Took those up in the French Alps in deep and steep snow and was amazed by the stability and ease of use. Never had any issues unlike my girlfriend who was using crap snowshoes which kept coming off ! Not what you want in arsh conditions!
