Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great snowshoes, but IMHO should be wider. I have used these snowshoes every day for three months over the last three years. I have a crew on snowshoes all winter, and we have tried them all. These are definitely the best. The quality as with all MSR products is excellent, The design especially the binding is also excellent. My only criticism is that they should be wider (or that there should be a wider option available. I weigh about 235, and even with the tails I am sinking (a lot) in deep powder. More width would definitely help larger users like me stay on top, and provide more stability to prevent ankle twisting. A big plus is these are made in the US and are backed by an excellent warranty.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The only ones I recommend I bought my 25" Ascents around 10 years ago, and have used them off and on as I did not have anyone to enjoy the sport with. This past weekend My wife and I and our adult kids Hiked up to Goldmyer Hot Springs out of Seattle WA, 10 miles round trip. They had never used snow shoes before, which they rented the newer versions of the REVO injection molded deck (only negative is they are very noisy on crusted snow) we all had packs on. My Ascents performed flawlessly, and much quieter in crusty snow than the REVO's with injection molded decks. Both the Ascents and the REVO's did not affect our gates at all, and hardly even knew they were there. But expensive$$$

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoes I was happily surprised this last Christmas when my wife had bought me a pair of the MSR Lightning Ascent 30" Snowshoes. I am a bigger guy so I was a little worried about the weight restrictions. I ended up buying the Lightning Ascent Tails too just to make sure. We went snowshoeing for my 1st time this last weekend and had so much fun! I used the tails to begin with, which are easily attachable to the snowshoes. I was trekking through the snow with relative ease. Towards the end of the trek, I took the tails off and still had no problems. A little more sinking but not a lot. Overall experience was fabulous. I would highly recommend these snowshoes to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightest, Fastest Snowshoes You'll Ever Own I cannot begin to tell you how marvelous these Lightning Ascent snowshoes are. I hiked 6.3 miles (2,600' of elevation gain) up to Margy's Hut in the 10th Mountain Division Hut system near Aspen, Colorado. These are the lightest, fastest most user-friendly snowshoes I have owned. If you're a big guy like me, carrying extra pack-weight, I must insist on getting the tails for these. When you want to get distance and are making big elevation changes these are by far the hands-down" favorite. It's the right tool for the job and then money you spend will give you real enjoyment when on the trail. Now......go get a pair. :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Snowshoes for steep climbs I used these snowshoe to climb Mount Whitney and they performed remarkably well on the steep snow chute leading to trail crest. Those snowshoes bite into ice and snow to offer amazing traction. However there is no such thing as the best snowshoes. As much as I like the MSR lightning ascent snowshoes for the harshest mountaineering terrain, they were not as comfortable as cheaper flexible snowshoes for casual snowshoe trips in Yosemite. I am a man but I prefer the narrower gate of the women version. Also, since those snowshoe accept an extension, I would go for a shorter pair, and use the extension when needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid craftsmanship! I bought these last year and unfortunately we didn't have a great snowfall all winter. But this year I have been able to get some great use out of them. I have snowshoed most of my life and these are by far the best pair I have owned. First thing is the weight... these are incredibly light. They have an extensive binding setup which can take a little time getting into but no worries on being sure-footed, they will stay tight. Next, the ingenious addition of "tails" makes those heavy backpack trips so much easier. Lastly I didn't know what to make of the televators, but after a first climb using them I'm sold. Makes me wonder what MSR could invent for standard hiking boots! haha

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight & Easy to Use I had bought my snowshoes awhile back before a back injury that had me out of commission for a few years. I bought my husband a pair this Christmas since I'm finally able to get out and have some "fun" and we took them up to Gold Creek Pond since the avalanche conditions were high and it was his first time out. I forgot how simple and intuitive it was to put them on and once we started snowshoeing in towards the lake we were "running" - the Lightning Ascents were so light and they didn't have the weight of older snowshoes that I had borrowed in years past. Overall, a successful day trip with lots of fresh snow, beautiful views of the lake, and plans made for our next snowshoeing adventure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Crampons too weak for Adirondack High Peaks I have had these snowshoes for a little more than a year. Followed the "herd" mentality and bought them because they were the most popular snowshoes in the Adirondack High Peaks. Now my crampons are bent and unusable, and MSR's web site says the exchange process could take four to six weeks. Considering the winter hiking season is only thirteen weeks long, I find that amount of time to be unacceptable. Several of my friends have the same problem, and web searches suggest MSR has known about this problem for several years. Seriously thinking about buying a different brand to get me through the rest of the season. Some of my friends already have. Nice snowshoes but I need something more reliable.
