"Here's the deal with the MSR Dragonfly Stove... it is completely awesome. If you have ambitions of doing any backcountry cooking, this is the stove for you. The flame control can take the burner from a low simmer to a jet engine boil in what seems like no time at all. I have made everything from simple grilled cheese to poached lake trout using this stove and have never come across any recipe you couldn't try with it. The Dragon Fly is also sturdy and stable enough to boil large amounts of water for groups. I have boiled enough water at one time for six dudebros so we could all eat together. It packs down small and will run on almost anything that burns, so on those through hikes where you run out of fuel, you can pop into a local shop and simply pick up some high octane adult juice to get you back in cooking business."

In a world that expects liquid-fuel stoves to have one setting (hot), the DragonFly Stove by MSR stands out. Since its debut in 1998, it has won numerous awards for its innovative dual-valve design, which offers an unrivaled range of continuous and immediate flame control. Simmer a delicate sauce over a candle flame or melt snow quickly over a blowtorch with a twist of the flame adjuster. The continued popularity and performance of the DragonFly can be attributed to the many features invented by MSR.

DECENT FEATURES of the MSR Dragonfly Stove

  • Full Flame Control: From simmer to boil
  • Multi-Fuel: Burns a variety of liquid fuels

"Great Base Camp / Group Cooking Stove"  03/30/12

This stove is a great stove and is a true work horse. Although it is slightly bit heavier and louder than most other stoves, it's great for cooking at base camp or cooking for groups on trail. I normally perfer having my jetboil if I'm cooking for myself but if I'll be cooking for a group, this is a must have. The simmer valve works great and really gives you the ability to fine tune the flame. If you are looking for a work horse to cook a lot of meals/big meals, this is your stove. But, if you are planning on only cooking for yourself there are much better options on the market. All and all, a great stove!

"Great stove but do you really need it?"  01/21/12

I have both this stove and the whisperlite and definitely use the latter almost every trip. Don't get me wrong, the dragonfly is a great stove but it is far louder and more expensive than the whisperlite. If you REALLY need a simmer option then grab it, but for me the whisperlite does everything I need doin' at a much cheaper price.

"Great Stove!"  01/06/12

This is a great stove from MSR. This stove is light weight, folds up compact, and is a powerhouse. This stove boils water very quickly but also allows you to simmer cook. I have an MSR Whisperlite Int., but like this stove much better. The Dragonfly cost a little more than other stoves, but it's worth every penny. This stove also folds out to have a nice base area to cook with larger pots.

"Gets the job done well. But is very loud"  12/30/11

it's extremely stable, works well with big pots. But it can't hold very small personal pots. I had to add metal wires so I could use it with my coffee pot (works well if you need it). Simmers well. Easy to handle. Very Very loud, to a point where you can't have a conversation without shouting. Looks sturdy. All in all I'm very glad I bought it.

"Bunsen Burner !!!"  08/17/11

If you can pour it and it burns, then it will work in this stove. Load up your flask....I mean your MSR fuel bottle with some bacardi 151 firewater and you have a duel purpose fuel source. Not only can you get a buzz you can also cook some trail nachos to satisfy the munchies. I am not joking this thing will burn any fuel source. I haven't had it that long but the legs seem kind of flimsy, the rest is well built but the legs fold up to the body shrinking the foot print. Plus it is made in the USA !!!!!

"Great stove!"  08/11/11

I love this stove -- it's variable heating lets me keep my chow warm enough for seconds! Packing it could be better designed as the long fuel-line hose makes packing this stove compactly difficult. It won't fit in a 1.5 L MSR pot but will [barely] fit in a 2.5 L MSR pot.

"Great Stove"  07/15/11

Used this on a few 3 week long trips, never had a problem with it. It is loud though while cooking. Easy to use and packs pretty small. The heat can go to simmer which is super nice to avoid burning food.

"Look No Further"  06/22/11

Simply stated this stove rocks! I've used this thing on numerous backpacking excursions as well as BWCA trips. It packs down to a very compact size (thanks to the folding supports), burns great, and the fact that you can adjust your flame and heat is awesome! I've had it for 3 years now and have not had single problem. Several of my buddies have complimented on this stove and in turn bought one for themselves. Another great feature is that it burns on almost any fuel you can find! If you're looking for a reliable, compact and totally badass stove then look no further.

"Lasts forever!!!!"  06/03/11

I got one of these over 6 years ago, and still runs like a champ. I haven't been exactly easy on it either. The multi-fuel capacity is nice to have too. Sounds like a jet fighter taking off! Thats the only down side, the noise.

"Oh, what a great little stove!"  05/23/11

Hubby wasn't really excited when the new little stove arrived. Oh, how he changed his tune when sipping a nice hot cup of coffee in the alpine meadow at 20 degress F in May. The stove is small and powerful and you can adjust the flame. Using the flimsy metal to sit the stove on and to surround the stove made a big difference--don't leave home without the metal bottom/surround. Little stove packs a big punch. Many areas had burn bans and this little stove helped to make our trip.

"im 50/50 on this stove"  05/11/11

I was so excited to get this stove, and the first few times using it were great. This is wonderful for backpacking in a group, or for cooking that requires a low simmer. you are able to fine tune the heat really well. stable design. I don't recommend taking this in the sand. sand gets into the pump easily, then you are doing some field maintenance (easy, but frustrating) After one season of abusing this stove, the pump was finally defeated. pretty bummed. I have had a whisperlite for 12 years and had to work on the pump three times. this one's pump was a frequent problem. Even though i had those problems, i am still gonna get a replacement pump, because the stove cooks so well.
