The Autoflow Gravity Filter by MSR. The AutoFlow Gravity Microfilter represents the latest evolution of backcountry hydration, combining water filtration, storage and collection into a single, lightweight and pump-free system. With the latest Hollow Fiber technology and the power of gravity, the AutoFlow microfilter is fast as well-up to 1.75 liters per minute without a single pump stoke. 4-liter reservoirs allow you to filter large quantities at once making it perfect for groups, while quick and easy tool-free cleanings maintain high flow rates on extended expeditions.

Not up to trail worker standards. These come standard issue at one of the conservation corps that I've worked for, and I've trouble understanding why. We pre-filtered our water with bandanas while using these in Colorado, and it would still take eight+ hours to filter four liters. We tried to field-clean them, which didn't seem to help anything. Frustrated, we opened the filters to see if there was anything obvious preventing them from working. There wasn't, and we ended up having to hand-pump all of our water (for nine days, a crew of eight people) as our fuel supply was dwindling and we were given no tablets. ,,,,I'm generally a huge fan of MSR, but these were a horrible experience. For our next project, we were given the Katadyn version of a gravity filter and that worked much better.

Best Water FilterI made the switch to the MSR Autoflow Gravity Filter from the MSR Miniworks. The Miniworks took the same about of time as the Autoflow, 1L per minute, the difference is that the Autoflow doesn't require me to pump. ,,,,Using the Autoflow I filter water while cooking and eating meals, and then after the meal I have 4Ls of clean water for the next meal-plus. ,,,,Also, this is significantly easier to clean than the Miniworks.

Amazing filter!First, I feel bad for the conservation corp review that had horrible luck. My best guess is they had trapped air bubbles stuck in the filter housing (total blockage this way). When you first get it, try it at home a few times to 1) to reduce the plastic taste from the new bag, 2) to learn how to fill it and, most importantly, backflush it if necessary. If you don't backflush from time to time, especially in dirty water, the pre-filter screen can clog or air can get in the filter and it will barely drip any water. Practice this in your sink/tub a handful of times. Practice at a nearby creak/stream. Then go confidently and safely on your trip. I can filter and have 10L (10L MSR black Dromedary makes a great clean container) of clean water in less than 10 minutes, and that includes refilling the red dirty bag. I am sooooo happy to not have to pump, pump, pump my old MSR MiniWorks (still a great product though) anymore. System is light, packable, reliable. Have loved using mine.
