Bought this for car camping. Its bomb proof. I expect it to out live me. I was going to give it to my son when I passed but I bought him one too so he wouldnt have to wait. Looks way cooler than the paper bowls other campers will be eating out of.
I carry my MSR Alpine Bowl with me on a daily basis. It is the ideal size for picking up a bagel sandwich to go in the city (leaving you with no garbage) though you might get some funny looks when you ask them to just put your lunch in it, no wrapping required. It is lightweight enough that it stays in my daypack all the time, and it holds more food than you would expect. For outings with canine friends, just fill from a water bottle and put it on the ground for them to have a drink. Also, for travel it can't be beat. It is an ideal assembly container on trains, planes and automobiles for crackers & cheese, pitas & dip, veggies, not to mention a bowl of cereal.
perfect size for ramen, or anything else on the trail. coupled with MSR's 1oz pot holder, you can easily cook in it, then wait for your food to cool and eat straight out of the bowl. and it doubles as a plate, as it has a nice, flat bottom... not unlike my ex-girlfriend.
I bought this bowl to increase my order to $49 and get free shipping, but I'm glad I got it. It's light, cute, and simple. I wouldn't want to put anything too hot in it unless I had a bowl-cozy (do they exist?) to absorb the heat so my hands wouldn't get cooked. It's multifunctional - so far I've used it as a bowl to eat from, a scoop, a ladle, and most recently a cat dish :)
