"Versatile and rugged" 05/01/12
I own this set and the MSR Alpinist Hard-anodized aluminum pots. These are my go to pots when shaving ounces is not critical (canoe/car camping). These pots have the versatility in being able to cook over fire or stove without worry of damage or permanent blackening-- clean up like new with the right chemicals and scouring. These pots are also superior for heat distribution over aluminum resulting in more even cooking like when I'm doing muffins, brownies, or low simmering a rice dish in the pots. If all you do is boil/rehydrate then the lighter aluminum/titanium pots are probably for you. If you like to cook real food or leave the stove behind then these pots would be my recommendation.
"Last forever best on an open fire" 03/21/12
These weigh more than the other pots MSR sells but on trips below the tree line I prefer these. You can save alot of weight on fuel by cooking on an open fire with these which is kinda a bad idea with other pots that have non stick coatings or plastic components on the lid. Plus they last forever!
"Good no-frill pot set for larger groups" 02/08/12
Overall this is a great product. I've used it for several different backpacking and canoe camping trips of different lengths, and it has held up well. I use it to cook on an MSR whisperlite stove. The pans are large enough to cook for seven, and having three pots gives you options with smaller groups if you don't mind the weight. The pans are durable (basic stainless construction), but the downside is that food can scorch without water since the stainless is thin and can heat unevenly. Great for pastas, sauces, etc, but hard on rice (or other things where moisture drys up).
