"Minimalist must" 05/19/13
This is the perfect tool for the hiker/camper/biker who doesn't want to drag along any extra weight. It is my EDC as well as the only multi tool I take on a bike or hike. The bottle opener is by far the best for the beer cap that's on just a little too tight. It has been one of my can't live without gadgets for several years now. If you like to travel light and like to have something on hand just in case, you need one.
"Everything you ACTUALLY need in something you can ACTUALLY carry." 02/15/13
We all think that we need the 147 different tools that most of the Leatherman/Gerber/Victorinox/SOG knives have but the truth is that we really don't.We all think that we're going to carry a multitool everywhere we go but that truth is that they're so heavy, we really don't.The CX is the exception. It's got everything you need in a package you can actually carry.I keep a Leatherman Bit Kit in my bag if I need to fix the submarine, since they use weird screws.
"3+ years of flawless use" 03/09/12
I've had this knife since Aug '08. I've had it with me just about everyday since then. Only flaw: the holes accumulate grime, lint, etc. I go through them with a Q-tip every once in awhile, but it doesn't really affect the function of the tool.I was initially concerned about the screwdriver bits staying in place. 3 years later, they're still there.I would go for the CX version because I like the 154CM blade material, but it might not be worth the extra $30-40 dollars. I've seen it online and in stores for about $85. Good thing Moosejaw has a price match policy!
"Have used a friends and am totally hooked" 11/23/11
This knife is a great combination of sweet looking knife and function. Not to bulky, fits in your pocket well and performs like a champ. I've used my friend's several times and love it, now I'm saving up for one of my own. Definitely recommend.
"No cans, please." 06/03/11
This is my absolute favorite multi tool. It is so light but so practical, leatherman hit the mark here except for one thing... no can opener. I am not whining, I hardly bring any cans into the backcountry, but it seems like almost all tools I've had contain a can opener. Otherwise, I keep this on me almost all the time thanks to the pocket clip and it's sleek, compact design.
"Great backpacking knife for any occasion." 04/22/11
Have had this knife for two years now. The weight is great for the amount of features. The knife blade is always sharp (have only sharpened it once) and is a great size balance between "uselessly small" and "too big to be practical". The pliers and screwdriver additions are awesome for repairs and modifications when your in the middle of your trip. The only downside that i have found is that dirt and crud does tend to accumulate easily in the knife because of the skeletal design. As a result cleaning is a little more frequent and complicated then a regular folding pocket knife.
"Smooth operator" 03/05/11
Aesthetically pleasing to look at, balanced feel, and sharp enough to split a frog hair 4 ways. The pliers are solid, the drivers are decent in a pinch, and to top things off, the bottle opener carabiner adds just that little extra something to make this more than a fair-weather friend.
"Best looking and designed multi-tool for the price. It looks like it's a tool from outer space." 12/16/10
I love all leatherman products but this Skeletool CX is definitely the coolest they have come out with. The Army issues me the normal big Gerber's all the time, but I just throw those in the tool box. This tool is a part of my uniform for everyday use. Just the knife itself is a good reason to get this thing, the pliers are kinda small but other than that, its a home run. I love this product and I hope leatherman keeps designs like this coming.
"Always on me" 10/23/10
I have carried this bad boy in my pocket everyday for going on two years now... One of the best purchases I've ever made! It is so light and compact I hardly ever notice it - until I need it. And then it is handy, handy, handy. I've used and abused mine and it is still in great shape. I did lose one of the bits (it slipped out of the holder at some point so watch that) but you can buy replacement bits...
"I carry this thing with me everywhere, except airports and courthouses." 10/15/10
This tool has saved me trouble time and time again. You get two flathead and two phillips head bits that store on the skeletool- if you add the optional bit kit, you get another 40 options. The knife blade is very strong and hasn't had to be sharpened in the year and a half I've owned it. Its light enough to take the place of a pocketknife while backpacking, but not so large that it feels bulky in your pocket. I have friends that have said "if you ever go to look for that thing and can't find it, its because I stole it from you." Lucky for me I never put it down.
