LA SPORTIVA FIT GUIDE and INFO

La Sportiva footwear is built and offered on European half sizes, which are smaller increments than US half sizes. This gives them four extra sizes per size run, and ultimately gives you a better fit.

Please review La Sportiva's size conversion chart above to help determine your ideal size. Below you will find additional information about how to fit and break in the different styles of La Sportiva footwear, which will also help guide you to the correct size.

ROCK CLIMBING SHOES:
• As a general rule soft shoes like climbing shoes require a tighter fit, or about two to three sizes smaller than your street shoe size.
• La Sportiva recommends you fit your trad climbing shoes one to two sizes under your street shoe size.
• La Sportiva offers a lot of lasts, and each offers a different fit and feel. Remember to factor in potential stretching.
• Unlined slip-lasted shoes tend to stretch a bit more than lined shoes, or about one full size.
• Lined shoes stretch about a half size.

ROCK CLIMBING SHOE FIT SYSTEMS:
• PERFORMANCE FIT - offers a high performance fit and a downturned last.
• TECH FIT - a more technical fit and a last with neutral profile.
• COMFORT FIT - a comfortable fit and a last with more volume and a neutral profile.

HIKING, BACKPACKING and MOUNTAINEERING BOOTS:
• Find your US Size in the guide above, then find the Euro Size conversion and add one half size.
• The ideal size holds your toes ever so slightly away from the front of the boot while the lacing system is snug across the top of your arch.
• If you can try to boots on beforehand, make sure you wear the same size and weight socks you would typically wear with the boots, and any orthotics or custom footbeds you use.
• It is ideal to fit boots later in the day since feet are prone to swell slightly as a day progresses.
• Wear your boots indoors only until you are confident about the fit.
• Your foot should feel snug (not tight) from the arch back into the heel pocket with just a minimum lift as you walk. If your heel lifts make sure the lacing is snug and not too loose.
• Your toes should NOT touch the front of the boot, but when you kick the toe into the floor, you should know where the front of the boot is. You want just enough room to wiggle your toes.
• If your toes or sides of your feet feel squished, most likely the width is too narrow and the boot will not work for you.
• If your toes touch the front of the boot, most likely it is too short and you need the next half size up.
• Make sure to keep all original packaging that came with your boots until you are sure that you are happy with your purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy 'em. Much better than the Koflach Degre boots for most climbs :) These boots are amazing - really light (which is a huge consideration for people with bad knees), lots of support, and totally waterproof. I used them this weekend on a hike up Mount Adams in Washington. There was snow from around 8500 feet upwards, and my feet never felt cold or wet. I used them with Grivel air tech light crampons, and they worked very well.
One thing I did do was to use Nikwax on them before the climb - I heard from a friend that the area around the tongue gets a little wet sometimes, but once you slather on the nikwax, you have no problems. I did that, and sure enough, my feet were dry as the Atacama desert.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great entry level boot These are super light, barely more than some shoes, much lighter then most boots! The ankle has great flexibility and support. In the beginning the soles are extremely stiff but will gain some flexibility over time making them a solid multi-purpose boot. I use them for heavy backpacking, not much of an ascetic when I go out, I tend to take the kitchen with me or maybe its they 3L of wine :) and light mountaineering. They lock in great with my grivel g12 new-matic crampons. They are not insulated but mine have seen plenty of snow\ice and my feet have always been just fine, but that may just be me. The footbed is minimally padded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boot for mixed mountaineering or high load packs I had to step up my boot level from the Salomon 4D GTX hiking boots (which I am absolutely enthralled with) for a rather lengthy expedition I'll be working with over the summer. I wasn't too thrilled with the thought of having to select a semi-technical boot in order to handle the load capacities which we are assigned. ,,However, I've been pleasantly surprised!,,Out of the box, these shoes were mega comfy even for a shanked boot. I'm working through the break-in process still but I've got no complaints so far to share. I love the weight and if this is your first step into mixed mountaineering or large load backpacking I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super Technical NOT WARM I've put about 200 miles in mine, from the Winds in Wyoming to remote canyons in Utah as well as hiking on the PCT, winter work, they are my go to boot. Super lightweight, I've had overbuilt sneakers that weigh more, and they climb quite well, if I didn't have a million other shoes you could use this as a 5.6-5.7 sorta shoe when you need to feel comfy. Fit socks really well, but they aren't warm and with all the material as well as Gore-tex they don't dry overnight when you need them too, I have gotten immersion foot on my big toes from these, mainly because there isn't much sole to protect from conductive heat loss there, a warmer shoe would work but I don't have one yet.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent boot but has some downfalls I've owned this boot for nearly 3 years and for the most part its done a great job. Unfortunately the boot has terrible insoles but the boot is incredibly waterproof. I find that the boot is often a bit cold for mountaineering, even in summer, as its uninsulated for most of Pacific Northwest Mountain volcanoes. I'd imagine for lower latitudes like California, the boot would work exceptionally well due to warmer conditions. The boot hikes well for a mountaineering boot but it's no where as comfortable as one. Bottom line, it's not a full mountaineering boot nor does it hike incredibly well. I find it tries to fit both categories but falls mediocre, but good but not incredible.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light, versatile, but not without compromise I bought these for quick alpine trips around the pacific NW. They excel in areas where you may encounter mud, water, slush, snow, and ice all in the same day. As straight hiking boots they are capable and comfortable. As mountaineering boots they are light and just stiff enough. I haven't had a crampon pop off yet, but they have just enough flex that they are not as well suited for steep walls when compared to a heavier, hard shell boot. They also really need to be paired with gators when used in deep snow. If you want a dedicated hiking boot or a dedicated ice climbing boot, there are other better options. But if you want something that's pretty good at damn near everything, get these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A SOLID, LIGHTWEIGHT AND VERSATILE BOOTBLOCKEDKEYWORD AND WATERPROOF TO BOOT. I JUST GOT THESE, AND AFTER A FEW HOURS OF MIXED SNOW/ROCK/ICE/TALUS CLIMBING, I MUST SAY I'M IMPRESSED. THEY'RE COMFORTABLE RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX (NOTE THAT I HAVE NARROW FEET, THIS MAY DIFFER IF YOURS ARE NOT), WITH ESSENTIALLY NO BREAK-IN TIME. THEY ARE RIGID ENOUGH TO ALLOW FOR SOME VIGOUROUS FRONT-POINTING, WITHOUT MAKING ME WALK LIKE FRANKENSTEIN ON THE WAY TO THE ICE. THE RAND AND TOE-CAP ARE REMINSCENT OF ROCK SHOES, I LOOK FORWARD TO USING THESE ON TECHNICIAL PEAKS SUCH AS MT. FURY AND MT STUART. SO FAR TOTALLY WATERPROOFBLOCKEDKEYWORDI STOOD IN A PUDDLE FOR TEN MINUTES TO TEST THEM, NO LEAKS.

ALSO, THE BRIGHT RED MAY BE A DOWNSIDE TO SOME, BUT I LOVE IT. COMBINED WITH RED OR

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great purchase...worth the money...LOVE the madness!! Enjoy these boots. I bought them in Jasper, Alberta on the day of a scramble I had forgotten my other boots and I was NOT dissapointed. They LOVE rock. I felt like a superhero in some places. Seriously though, they stick to rock and are super comfortable and light. No breaking in period at all. In fact they are so comfortable I am wearing them right now while I sit in my office. I have also been using them here in the North for some light hikes and even just walking to work is an adventure. So far the temps are only -20, but they have proven to be warm and waterproof. I really can't say enough good. The ONLY bad I can see so far is that they seem to wear quicker than other boots I
