"So Warm and Comfy!!!" 12/20/11
I have only had the pleasure of using these at the Ice Tower in Fenton, Mi and in the UP while Ice Climbing over the last two years. However, I bought these with the intention of knocking some Mountains off my bucket list. They keep me super warm while climbing for hours on end. I wear a 10 1/2 US street shoe, and I went with the 43 1/2 and they fit perfect.
"Great Boot for lots of uses" 11/15/11
I have worn these from multi-day mountaineering expeditions (19,000+ feet) to single day ice climbing trips (-30F). I wear them with a single smart wool mountaineering sock and they rock. My first pair lasted 10+ years (and are still going but now reside in my storage box in Ecuador).
"If you're considering this boot, this is the one you want." 11/11/11
I bought this boot for year round outdoor work at 11K' above sea level (9 month snowpack). If your foot fits in this boot, you'll be all set. Snug heel fit and ample room in the toe box. Medium arch support. Nothing feels forced with the boot - the shape is very natural for my feet - heel is locked in and all five toes move freely right from the first lace up. I ordered the same as my shoe size for wearing a single pair of thin to medium wool socks and am very happy with the fit. Stiff out of the box, but comfortable enough to wear all day. Sort of wish they didn't look like a clown crapped on my feet, but otherwise, really good boot.
"Great boots for when you want to get serious" 09/17/11
Haven't used these a ton yet but already love them. Took them up Mount Baldy in SoCal back in February for their maiden voyage and did great. Real secure no problem keeping crampons on like I've had when I used my normal backpacking boots. These are heavy duty for sure but so much better than plastic boots. Only problem I had on the descent they kept coming loose or untied probably just need to wear gaiters more
"Stellar winter boot" 09/16/11
These babies are some of the nicest boots you can buy. They are very comfortable - I have yet to get a blister or any kind of uncomfortable rubbing in them, even straight out of the box! Warm in the winter, and even during fall/spring they can be comfortable on slightly warmer hikes (although they are serious overkill) these babies are solid. They also climb quite well - the solid boot with the protruding toe makes for a great platform for climbing so I have been very pleased with that as well...
"Go anywhere, versatile mountaineering boots." 07/16/11
I purchased these boots for a mountaineering trip to Shasta and eventfully Rainier + Denali. I wear a size 12 in Merrells and the size 46 fits pretty well. I broke in the boots on an aggressive 20+ mile hike bagging three 10K' peaks through mixed terrain: snow, rock scrambling, crossing streams, etc. At the end of the hike, I had NO blisters and my feet were in good shape! At Shasta (Hotlum Bolum route + crevasse play), these boots performed perfectly with crampons, vertical pitches & even the approach. My feet never got cold during the 3 day trip.I replaced the thin stock insoles with superfeet greens and wear smartwool heavy mountaineering socks (with liners on cold days).
"very usefull in several conditions" 07/06/11
I found these boots really confortable, true to size, warm enough but, more important, a relaiable boot in many different conditions (high altitude, snow, argentinean rocky trails, etc)the ankle system is great, you don't notice about the boot you are wearing because you can move and walk with lot of freedomI would recommend them to anyone!
"They keep your feet dry and kicking steps." 05/13/11
I was a little hesitant to buy these at first... I'm a person who's feet tend to "freak out" when in confined spaces. But,virtually no break-in.I've done a few multi pitch climbs and while they are by NO means rock shoes, the traction is surprising. I also like the bit of the rocker step they have, it make using crampons feel a little more stable. Another concern was the warmth, would they be too hot or too cold. For me they aren't exactly like the Goldilocks "Just Right" but they are comfortable enough. With the vents on in 10-15 F they were too cold. So the next time out I took the vent/molding out and put toe warmers in, too warm. I have yet to try the vent in with toe warmers...
"Excellent Boots with little break-in required" 04/27/11
Love these boots! They were on around the house and around the yard for a little break in time before hitting the trails. Very little break in required and super comfortable on the trail. They hold crampons well and are very warm and dry in the snow. They are expensive, but step up for them and invest in your feet. Easy to climb in with very comfortable, little-restricted heel movement. I can't wait for next season now to get these out in the snow again! Sizing is right on. Go get them!
"Best Available" 04/17/11
Warm, durable, lightweight. This boot is warm when proper socks are warm however this is not the warmest boot around. I would not take this boot into extremely cold conditions. Lower 48 should have no issues. For general mountaineering use it is next to impossible to find a better boot than this. Order a 1/2 to a full size larger to accommodate heavy socks.
"Best Winter Mountaineering Boot" 02/06/11
I love these boots. I dreamed about them for years climbing the Cascade volcanoes and winter 14ers in CO. I finally bought a pair, and my dream came true. The day I received them was quite the special event (birds singing, sun shining, etc.). I have now broken them in, well they broke me in a bit, nicely with winter climbs on Mt. Fuji and Japan's South Alps. They rock! Kept my feet warm in -20C weather. Handle Ice and snow well. Not too bad on the approach for a technical climbing boot. I can't say enough about them. Eager to get on some vertical ice this winter with them. Hands down, best single boot on the market!
