LA SPORTIVA FIT GUIDE and INFO

La Sportiva footwear is built and offered on European half sizes, which are smaller increments than US half sizes. This gives them four extra sizes per size run, and ultimately gives you a better fit.

Please review La Sportiva's size conversion chart above to help determine your ideal size. Below you will find additional information about how to fit and break in the different styles of La Sportiva footwear, which will also help guide you to the correct size.

ROCK CLIMBING SHOES:
• As a general rule soft shoes like climbing shoes require a tighter fit, or about two to three sizes smaller than your street shoe size.
• La Sportiva recommends you fit your trad climbing shoes one to two sizes under your street shoe size.
• La Sportiva offers a lot of lasts, and each offers a different fit and feel. Remember to factor in potential stretching.
• Unlined slip-lasted shoes tend to stretch a bit more than lined shoes, or about one full size.
• Lined shoes stretch about a half size.

ROCK CLIMBING SHOE FIT SYSTEMS:
• PERFORMANCE FIT - offers a high performance fit and a downturned last.
• TECH FIT - a more technical fit and a last with neutral profile.
• COMFORT FIT - a comfortable fit and a last with more volume and a neutral profile.

HIKING, BACKPACKING and MOUNTAINEERING BOOTS:
• Find your US Size in the guide above, then find the Euro Size conversion and add one half size.
• The ideal size holds your toes ever so slightly away from the front of the boot while the lacing system is snug across the top of your arch.
• If you can try to boots on beforehand, make sure you wear the same size and weight socks you would typically wear with the boots, and any orthotics or custom footbeds you use.
• It is ideal to fit boots later in the day since feet are prone to swell slightly as a day progresses.
• Wear your boots indoors only until you are confident about the fit.
• Your foot should feel snug (not tight) from the arch back into the heel pocket with just a minimum lift as you walk. If your heel lifts make sure the lacing is snug and not too loose.
• Your toes should NOT touch the front of the boot, but when you kick the toe into the floor, you should know where the front of the boot is. You want just enough room to wiggle your toes.
• If your toes or sides of your feet feel squished, most likely the width is too narrow and the boot will not work for you.
• If your toes touch the front of the boot, most likely it is too short and you need the next half size up.
• Make sure to keep all original packaging that came with your boots until you are sure that you are happy with your purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic shoe I bought these shoes in April and they are fantastic. I primarily climb in Rifle and they really excel there. They offer great sensitivity and hold on the slick, glassy footholds. I haven't had any problems with durability so far. I normally wear a 40 in Tessterrossa's and Solutions, but I decided to get a 39.5. Im glad I did because this shoe broke in a little more than the others.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great shoes, but worth it? I have climbed in these for about 8 months mostly for bouldering and a bit of sport in the south. They edge, smear, and heal hook well. However, they are not the best shoe for any particular situation. Overall, I am happy with the shoe, but disappointed with the value. I don't feel like they perform any better than the Miura VCS, but cost quite a bit more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoe, La Sportiva has done it again. Never thought Id have competition for favorite shoes when I first started using the Muiras however the Genius make it very difficult to decide. Both fit similarly and the downturned toe is perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from By far the best shoe i've ever climbed in TL;DR...These have become my everything all the time shoes, they feel more like a rubber sock molded directly onto my foot than shoes. If you're thinking about getting a pair the answer is yes, you won't regret it I sized them the same as my Solutions and half a size smaller than my Testarossas, they're easily the most comfortable of the three. Definitely fit a bit snugger than the Solutions when they came out of the box but after a few sessions with them they'd stretched out just a bit and now fit basically the same as the Solutions. With the exception of the heel on the Solution I find the Genius' to be superior to both the Solution and the Testarossa at pretty much everything. They're whole no edge things makes ridiculously soft and sensitive, you can just stick you foot on any hold and it'll stay there without you having to worry about getting the edge of the shoe on exactly the right part of the hold In the little things that don't really matter but are cool category...the lace up system is pretty slick, just pull on the top and they'll tighten all the way down so they take about a third as long to get on as my Testarossas.

If I wear a 40 in Miura VS, what size should I get for the Genius? Thanks!

Asked by: paraguaysun
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! So, a size 40 in Miura VS will be the same size as the 40 in Genius. Stick with that, and you'll be wright as reign! Or, is it right as rein? Rite as rain? Whatever. Just get the 40. Hope this helped you out!

Hi I currently use a 39.5 in the Miura lace ups. What size would you suggest for the Genius?

Asked by: Bnice76
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us. You've got a good eye, as these are some of the best climbing shoes we carry! As for sizing, the Miura and the Genius are going to be the same. 39.5 is going to be a 7 for both of them. Stick with that size! Hope this helped you out.

my son is 8.5 US & 41 in Katanas lace. According to what I have been reading this size may be a bit too big? I would like to get a pair of Genius for him for Christmas. He has high arches and a fairly wide foot . He mostly uses them for boldering.

Asked by: jeannie
Hey Jeannie, Thanks for the question. These shoes run a bit large but also require a snug fit to function properly, so I would suggest going down about half a size from his Katanas to a 40.5, as the lacing system is very accurate and helps to ensure the most anatomical fit.

Asked by: JohnnyInk
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us. You got the Katanas, and now going for the Genius. Well played sir (or madam.) As for sizing, the Katanas and the Genius will be the same. A 40 will equal a 7.5 in both. Hope this helped you out!

Worn 39.5 in solutions for years...suggested size in the genius?

Asked by: ToeCrimpr
Hey there, The sizing on these are very similar to the Solutions so I would suggest going with a 39.5 in these as well as the fit will be about the same right out of the box. I hope this helps.
