I bought these shoes for approach and mild climbing in the mountains as they are designed for such. As an approach shoe they are stiff but have no ankle support which could be a problem on some trails (especially if carrying a pack). However, as a climbing shoe they work better than a boot with ankle support. It is important to note that the size of the shoes tends to run quite small and they are also quite narrow as shoes go so, make sure to order appropriately. The soles are very stiff and make for a difficult break in period and the lasing system makes for good adjustability in the fit.
I have a job in the military and sometimes I'm not able to take more gear than I need that's why it's nice to have a double role shoe. These have super grippy soles that are really stiff,I wouldn't try to run a marathon in them but for hiking and the approach they are great. They have a padded tongue and heal box that proved excellent support. They are comfotable with or without socks but if they are new the yelloy die will make your toes yellow. They climb great, the stiff sole allows you to edge and it has climbing rubber on the toe for cracks with rubber on the heel for heelhooking. The half sizing allows you to get the exact fit.Pricey but awesome
