Love the external frame! This is my first real pack and I have to say it's a beauty. Tons of room and having all the pockets it's easy to forget what's in them. You can just keep loading this baby up because of all the strapping choices you have. I have no idea how people can pack anything in those internal packs, especially something like a sleeping pad and tent. You can easily strap a small child horizontally under the cargo area, and still have plenty of room for other oversized items ;-) Having done many day hikes, this pack is extremely comfortable with well padded shoulder/waist straps and plenty of airflow for the back. I haven't had any trouble with zippers and seem very well made. I would definitely recommend this Kelty Trekker Pack, not only for the size, quality, old school external frame and coolness of being fully loaded, but at this price point... you're laughing all the way to bank for what you get. Cheers!

Sturdy packhorseWhen I first started backpacking and camping, I used external frame packs. I loved the versatility for packing, and the overall comfort the frame provided. Eventually, I moved to internal frame packs to streamline the load - and to help keep me from bringing too much stuff! Now that my kids are getting bigger, and I want to be taking them out on trips, I bought this Kelty pack to I had a strong place to strap some extra gear for an overnighter. The pack has plenty of room for clothes and sleeping gear inside, tons of pockets for organizing the extras, space to strap a tent and a few bedrolls at the bottom, loads of lashing points for extra tarps or rain gear, and comfy shoulder straps and hipbelt. It's easy to adjust, breathes well to keep you cool while hiking, and handles a heavy load well. I carried enough gear for myself and my 2 boys for an overnight easily: 3 sleeping bags, 3 sleeing pads, pillows, tent, a camping hammock, clothes, food... you get the picture. Great pack!!
