I have loaded up this pack with a lot of food and the back support was a little uncomfortable while carrying a fairly heavy load. For short trips or to carry things while traveling it is a great pack. I personally would not use it for a long, multi day hike with heavy loads.
I bought the Forest Night color Redwing and it looks very good. The pack itself is light weight and made well. The harness is comfortable but not great. What you get for a pack this price. The hip belt has no pouches, but does have molle. I actually prefer that instead. I can add my own pouches. The side pockets are good size. I almost fit a 2 litter soda pop bottle. The cap was just above the zipper. The top pouch is a nice touch. I fit some gloves, beanie, first aid kit, and some other small items. The administration pocket is actually roomy. I thought it would be useless the more I filled the main pocket, but it held a lot of stuff. I use this pack for 2-3 day trips. I pack small amounts of stuff. No need for a lot stuff for a short trip. If you want to do longer adventures, I would go bigger than this. Cause you need more room for that giant MooseJaw flag of course.
This would be considered a daypack. Whatever that means. I think its big for that. but to small for extended trips, like 5 days or more. I don't take much with me, so I can use this pack for like 3 days and be good. Others I know can not even fit everything in a 90 litter bag. The side pockets are very nice. A 2 litter bottle almost fits, just the very top cap does not fit. The suspension is good, but not great. No pockets on hip belt, but there is molle. The top pocket is big enough for some gloves, beanie, first aid kit and little more. Overall you get a lot in a bag this inexpensive. I actually wish Kelty would make a 75 litter bag that look like this.
I like this bag as it is very versatile. I use it on climbing trips. My only complaint is when hauling it up a multipitch route, the zipper cord was completely shredded...which is to be expected I suppose.
This thing has enhanced my travel enjoyment over and over. It travels well and stows in the overhead bin. Load it up and you can be good for 3-5 days. I've used my Redwing for day hikes and 3 day weekend overnighters. Its comfortable, its light , its versatile. You'll love it! Great workmanship and pocket details. Wears like iron and stylish too.
