I grabbed this last minute before heading up to base camp at Mt. Ranier. I have the Kelty 0 Cosmic Down and it's big and warm but too much for July in the snow, so I went with this one and it did the trick, though I slept with all my layers on. Then took it to Pt. Reyes in April. Probably about 40 at night and I was a little chilly in the bag. I"m not a fan of the mummy style since I like to move my legs around, but it is a decent bag for the price unless you really are counting the ounces.
I put this bag to it's first real tent during an unexpectedly cold night out last weekend (someone might have forgotten to check the overnight lows...). In just a t-shirt, I was perfectly warm inside the bag in low 30 degree temperatures. I was able to cinch the hood around my face, keep my neck warm with the draft collar, and keep everything but my nose perfectly warm (I had to breathe somehow). I like to curl up when I sleep and I like that this bag lets me bend my legs enough to get comfortable and doesn't restrict my movement, however it's still small and light enough to stuff into my pack with no concerns. Love it!
"Low price and high quality? I called Shenanigans on this but its true!"
This is an awesome, comfortable and warm sleeping bag that is REAL DOWN but costs a fraction of what other bags will drain from your wallet. Buy it from Moosejaw and save even more money if you buy some closeout fugly color....I mean seriously, its a sleeping bag. Who cares what color it is? (But they did have all the regular colors at good prices too) This sucker is warm, light and will make you crave chili peppers just looking at it! I suggest you buy one and stay warm on the trail!Clark Family Adventure Tours...OUT!
This is a good bag. Basically it is good, but not great, at everything. You could find a lighter bag, or a warmer bag. However, I think that you would be hard pressed to find a better down sleeping bag for this price. I would recommend it for warm spring/fall backpacking or summer backpacking.
It lofts well, compacts decently small, and weighing in at just under 2.5 pounds, the Cosmic Down is still the best bag for the money you're likely to find. Especially if you happen across it on sale. The side zipper goes all the way to the foot box, there's an active draft collar, and the hood as well as the collar cinch closed. I've used it in a hammock, no pad underneath, and it kept me plenty warm on a 40 degree night. Going at all lighter for the same specs as the CD20 will likely cost you at least another $100, probably more. Unless you're going ultralight, or camping in snow, you can't go wrong with this bag.
"Decent bag for the money, but awful Kelty customer service"
For the money, this is solid bag. It is warm, fairly roomy and generally well reviewed. There are two problems that I see though. First, Kelty's customer service is awful. I tried to get my old sleeping bag repaired through the warranty and they wouldn't do it, the product wasn't old enough to qualify for repair. Instead they gave me a 40% off coupon. The coupon didn't work.Second problem (at least form my end) is that you can't mate it with another bag because all Comic Downs are right zip only. Even women's versions.
