The Targhee Mid II from KEEN offers four-wheel-drive performance for your feet. The shoe is revamped with the KEEN.DRY waterproof breathable membrane to keep your feet dry and comfortable. The aggressive outsole has 4mm lugs to bite into the terrain, providing excellent traction. The ESS shank provides torsional stability for a secure ride, while the mid cut height increases ankle support through canyons and over mountaintops.
DECENT FEATURES of the Keen Women's Targhee II Mid Shoe
So soon as I stepped into an invisible soggy mud hole while hiking up to Preikestolen in Norway, I thought "Well, (expletive), the rest of this hike isn't going going to be fun. I was pleasantly surprised that waterproof meant PROOF and not PROTECTANT, as others shoes turned out to be.
I bought a pair of these about 7 years ago for Christmas gift for my wife when they were the Targhee I. Not sure if she liked them at first, but I noticed later next year while on a long hike in the early spring, my wife commented on how nice these were. Normally she has been disappointed with most boots because of her wide feet, and these allowed for any swelling after a long day. Now this is all she wears to work, for play and of course the newest pair for hiking. I would imagine she is on her 5th pair now. She destroys the insoles, but other then that they really hold up nice.
im a winter backpacker and i love these boots, kept my feet dry and warm, but also breathable so my feet didnt sweat. took acouple of wears to break them in, they were really stiff on the first trip. wear them everyday taking my huskey for walks in the winter. go great with my OR winter gear. recomend them for avid packers or just for someone who is outdoors alot in the winter.
Even as "light hikers" I don't think Keens fit the bill. I always try to love Keens, but I can't for a couple of reasons. Why do I try to love them? Because they're super comfortable when I put them on my feet and they usually don't require any break in time. But I can't love them and here's why. They don't stay comfortable for very long and by very long, I mean 3 months max. Not long enough for a shoe in this price point. They wear out quickly and they fall apart quickly. Longevity is not their middle name.If you're looking to do any hiking at all, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a decent city/street shoe, these may fit the bill, but keep in mind that if you're wearing them with any frequency, they're going to wear out quickly. And you'll probably get another pair, because they were so comfortable for those first three months, especially if you have wider feet, but there are better options out there.
"These boots really hold up to their reputation"
I was hesitant about buying these boots seeing as to how most people said that they ate good for casual hikes. I initially bought them for a 2 week trek on JMT on pretty rugged and varied terrain. I have taken these in a handful of long day hikes and they have held up really well even in the loosest and slipperiest conditions. I have to say I'm pretty satisfied thus far. Also I have to mention how comfortable they are! They feel great on my feet and they even eliminated my heel and knee pain from previous injuries! I have definitely found a new favorite hiking boot
"Wanted a comfortable walking - light hiking boot---Love this boot"
I got my husband a pair of these boots to wear turkey hunting as they were recommended by the guys on the turkey forum. He thinks they are the most comfortable boots he's worn. Well, long story short, (well I guess not really short) I liked them so much that I got a pair. I have problems getting footwear wide enough for me, (I have duck feet, short and wide). These fit perfectly. Also I have bunions from standing at my job for 32 years and these boots don't hurt them. I love these boots. Since this is really ratings for two items does that qualify for double points? ;-)
I bought these near the end of the hiking season (for me, anyway - not much of a snow hiker) and so ended up storing these away until the snow fell. Once it did, I figured I'd give these a try as winter boots because they're comfortable and not nearly as clunky as my other ones. They were perfect - my feet stayed warm and dry, and the grip was great, even on some pretty deadly sidewalks. I have no doubt that come next year I'll be hiking up a storm in these.
These are comfortable, like all Keen products I've tried, and they are great for day hiking. I usually wear a 7.5 in other Keen shoes and sandals, but I got an 8 in these because I wear fairly heavy hiking socks.
