"Takes some time, but does the job..." 04/14/12
These take some time to work. But if you hike in an area with plenty of relatively clean streams (clean from particulates, chemicals and what not) like I do, it makes more sense than carrying an expensive filter.
"If your are in warm weather, need a drink for a long hike. This ain't it Skippy-But they do work." 03/22/12
No after taste, Long 4 hour wait in a dark place or risky business. Over night trips would be a good use, but no more long multi-day big mile trips.
"I prefer it over lugging around a filter" 03/18/12
It is so light and works great. No bad taste. I try to fill my bladder before bed then drop a few tablets inside. In the morning my water tastes better than the tap back home. I honestly couldn't taste any chlorine and I tend to think I have a sophisticated palate.
"perfect backup" 12/12/11
Sometimes you just need that warm, fuzzy, prepared feeling that you get when you know you can make drinkable water from anything, without having to worry about batteries, salt, or whatever. Get this if you like that feeling.
"No frills, quick solution" 08/29/11
Depending on my source, I will use a pump filter and also drop a tablet into the water to eliminate any microorganisms. They work as a great backup too if your filter fails. I would recommend using a tab before your trip to get used to the taste. I also pack Crystal Light powder to mask the chlorine taste.
"Great for 72 hour kits" 06/07/11
I buy a pack of 30 for each 72 hour and backpacking kit that I buy. Its one of the easiest and lightest backup purifying methods that you can buy. There is really nothing too it...simply run the water through a bandanna for prefiltration and then pop in a tablet. Couldn't be easier.
"Great!" 05/31/11
I used these to clean the river water near our campsite and it tasted great! I'm pretty sure it was safer to drink the river water with these in than the water from my tap back home!!! No one could taste the chlorine... would have been lost without these!
"why use anything else?" 11/25/10
Super light and a million times easier than pumps or filters, not sure why anyone would bother with anything else. Yes there is a slight taste at times but it never bothered me, at most it tastes like strong tap water. Leaving your water exposed to sunlight (UV) helps kill off the taste, not sure why, but I read that tip somewhere. If it really bothers you just put in some emergen-C or gatorade packets and you'll never notice. Only annoying thing is that the pellets sometimes get crushed inside the foil and are then hard to get out of the packet, so it helps to keep them in a small box/tin so they stay intact.
"Purifies water, tastes nasty though..." 10/28/10
Used these tablets on my last big trip. Purifies water, but they take a little while to do it. Also the water tastes nasty, like chlorine, and there can be little chunks of dirt and river gunk in your water still.
