"Decent, but better options" 03/21/12
This was my first water filter. I have to say it came in extremely handy while hiking in Glacier National Park. It does what it is supposed to do, but it is a bit slow. For the price I would recommend spending a bit more and going for the next model up, the katadyn vario. This pumps works very quickly in comparison to this one, because of its double pumping action. This is a solid unit but spending a bit more for a better one is worth it in my opinion.
"Awesome Filter. Pricy replacement filters." 11/30/11
Light weight and doesn't take up much space. It removes any debris that might be in the water and makes the water taste good. Replacement filters are sort of expensive and need to be changed more often the dirtier the water sources you pump from.
"Not the lights, but the easiest and sturdiest" 11/23/11
I've used a wide variety of water filters and this one is my favorite, easy to use, sturdy and quick it is totally worth the weight. Only improvement I could see is having a longer intake hose, a few of the places I've tried to filter water out of I had to do it off a dock or tall ledge and so getting the hose down to the water has been challenging, otherwise totally sold on it.
"Get this if you backpack! Amazing product!" 11/08/11
We have used this more times than I can count, this is an amazing water filter. We have been in some back woods with sketchy water sources and have never once gotten sick, it takes the murkiest water( muddy, not able to see through water) and turns it into clean drinkable water. Its light and comes with its own case so everything stays together and has a separate zip lock bag for the contaminated parts of the filter. Highly recommend!
"works for me" 11/01/11
i love this filter. its not the lightest, but it is very, very durable. i used it on multiple weekend long hikes and have stuck it down in some very nasty looking water and the water that came out tasted just fine. pumps fast too.
"It's not a tumor!" 10/29/11
Light weight and haven't died yet, must be doing something right.
"Well worth every penny" 06/22/11
Great water filter for any situation. I've brought and used this on different bodies of water ranging from crystal clear lakes to murky little streams. The result every time is clean water with no little nasty peices floating around. This thing can pump through anything, in the three years I've owned this I haven't had a single issue yet. Cleaning the pump and changing the filter cartridge is also pretty smooth and easy enough to do. (Nothing's worse than trying to change a cartridge at 9 at night in mosiquito country on a filter that's difficult)
"Worth the $" 06/19/11
I purchased this so that I wouldn't have to carry so much water with me when I went camping. It is super user friendly and compared to how much weight you save by not having to carry water its well worth it. Great speed, filled up a 2 liter bladder in a little over 1:30 from start to finish. The water was clear and tasted just like bottled water (no bad aftertaste) It can be a little awkward trying to fill up your container and keep the filter end of the hose where you want in the water but that is the only down fall Ive come across. I would defiantly by it again.
"Great Filter simple to use will buy another" 04/16/11
I have had 2 of these over years. First I bought the hiker then the hiker pro. To me no need to buy the hiker pro extra features are not needed. Hiker does a great job as long as you take care and dry the filter when you are home from trek. I have used in the BWCA and here in the central midwest. Hiker is a great filter and a really great price now on sale get one while they are on sale.
"I've depended on mine for years..." 04/06/11
I don't remember what kind of water filter I had before the katadyn hiker...but, I do remember how hard it was to pump and how much of a pain in the '*ss' it was. I've been using this the hiker for several years and I can honestly say that I not looking for new water filter. Ease, Convenience, compactibility, etc,...the hiker is a keeper.
