Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than Miniworks I've had the Miniworks since 2004, Hiker since 2006. I prefer the Hiker. Basically the same product, but the Hiker just packs up nicer. The handle lies up against the chamber, without sticking out like the Miniworks.,,,,Also, I don't know if it's available for the Miniworks, but the Hiker comes with an attachment for hydration bladder hoses. It's always such a pain to dig my bladder out of my pack to refill it. With the Hiker, I can plug the Clean output hose directly to my drink tube. Pump and fill my bladder while it's still in my pack.,,,,Both the Miniworks and Hiker allow you to fill a bottle, but the option to fill a bladder is OUTSTANDING.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from If you must buy a pump-style filter, this is the one to get. Katadyn makes what many people (myself included) feel are the best hand-pumped filters on the market; they are relatively easy to use, effective, and incredibly durable. This particular filter is second, IMHO, only to the much more expensive Katadyn Pocket filter. However, like all pump-style filters, these do have their problems; they're heavy, they're slow, and they require a fair bit of screwing around with. Unless you need to suck water out of very shallow pool or rivulet, I STRONGLY suggest the absolutely brilliant dual-bag gravity filter/inline system made by Sawyer. Unfortunately, Moosejaw has yet to carry Sawyer products, so....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best filter I have used I bought this filter when it was made by "PUR" about 19 years ago, and I love it. You can drop the pickup tube in a mud puddle and pull clean water. Recently broke the pickup prefilter and "Katadyn" was able to supply the replacement part. Super customer service. And the replacement filters are the same but with improved filter screen. Great product that has lighten my load. I now carry less water down the trail because I can get clean water anywhere.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Reliable filter I have owned this filter for 5-6 years and it has done its job every time. I have replaced the filter once it was about $40. I have recently switched to a steri pen it is a 1/4 the wait and a lot smaller. I like that this filter is easy to use but if filtering a lot of water for a group it is find of a pain. Over all I think it's a good filter and will keep it around for a back up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Got the job done on my first backpacking trip... Some friends from college and I went backpacking and someone brought the Katadyn Microfilter along with us. It was a handy, easy to use filter. Pumping took a bit of time for larger bottles, but it it was nothing unreasonable. Definitely a handy first time/basic water filter. I can see how it would be annoying on a very long trip, but otherwise it was a great filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No giardia, yay! Have used this on several trips now, and have zero complaints. My wife got giardia from backpacking with lesser filtering techniques and on our return trip with THIS filter we were both fine. The floating bobber is great and helps with filling. The cap fits in pretty much any water bottle or hydration pack you could imagine. Would definitely recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Snap crackle pop This little guy works wonders. I would compare it to the MSR Mini-Works which is also a great product. A bit easier to find than the MSR ones though. I found mine at a resale shop of all places for $6. Doesn't leave any taste to your drinking water like the iodine tablets do, but also doesn't kill everything like they do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mountain Men Love It I have two friends that work cutting trail 6-8 months out of each year. They are in the back country pretty much making me jealous by backpacking all summer for work. They both swear by this thing. I have not yet had experience with it but I have heard nothing but good things.
