I think everything you read is accurate. The t-shirt is very thin so I doubt you would want to wear it by itself - but that is your call. The color isn't white, it is off white. It runs a little small so don't pick the smaller size.On the other hand...who wants a smelly polypropolene or wet cotton undershirt - this is silky soft wool that stays comfortable and doesn't smell. The touch of lycra is really nice for a performance underlayer. It has a nice bodyhugging fit without being constrictive around your shoulders. Pick this over the Smartwool microweight T-shirt if you are laying it under active wear.
"Great base layer, but only good as a base layer"
My friend loves icebreakers and recommended this. I thought that I would get it in white since all my other icebreakers are black. However, it's not really as white as shown in the picture. I would describe the color as more off-white or dirty white. It's not really the most attractive color. And it's a bit see through as is the problem with all light colored and light weight icebreakers. But still makes an excellent base layer, just don't expect to be able to take the outer layers off in polite company.
"Not exactly white as pictured or described"
I love icebreaker products and have purchased more than 50 over the years. I was excited to see that this one was available in white since they rarely offer anything in white. (Although white was supposed to be one of their original colors offered.) However, this shirt is more of a beige/light grey color. It's a bit dingy looking, looking like as if it's been through the wash many times with dark color items. Perhaps it's the color of sheep. Anyhow it's not white! And because it is a light color in their lightest 150 weight it's extremely see through. Aside from the color, this shirt performs wonderfully, like icebreakers in general.
I love my woolens. I've got quite a lot of Icebreaker clothing and wear them all winter long. I got myself a couple of Icebreaker Apollo short sleave shirts a while back and wanted another, but, alas, they no longer have them. I settled for this and it does the job--just doesn't have the same fitted quality.
