"Awesome hoody, but i don't get to wear it enough"
Wool is the ultimate baselayer for long trips or lazy people who don't want to do laundry because it doesn't collect odor like sythetic materials do. However not all wool is made equal. It pays to spend $ on a quality baselayer and Ibex may be the best.Pros:-Soft-Won't stink-More durable than lower quality wool options-Great fit (I'm 5'10" 165# and the medium is a perfect trim but not skin tight fit)-hood and zip neck add versatility-WarmCons:-My only real con is that I wish i could wear it more often. In warmer months it's too warm to wear while hiking hard. I could take it as a sleeping layer, but polyester is much lighter for the same warmth and if it's going top ride in my pack ounces count.
"I love this hoodie. It's pretty thin, but it's really soft and actually warmer than you'd think."
Honestly, I expected that the hoodie would be thicker. So I was initially a little nervous as to the quality and the warmth. However, after I broke it in a little I realized how great it is. Don't get me wrong, it's thin, but it feels great and looks nice too. It's a great all-purpose jacket because you can wear it comfortably both indoors and outdoors. I really like the partial zip. It looks nicer than zip-downs and pull-overs without zippers (in my opinion). As much as I love it, I won't pretend like there's nothing wrong with it. It's pretty warm, but it isn't a winter coat. It makes a nice base layer but it isn't going to meet all of your needs as far as the cold is concerned. Also, the hood looks pretty goofy when you zip it up all the way (but it looks okay if you don't). Another thing I noticed is that it does not smell good when it gets wet. I expected that the lanolin in the wool would help keep it smelling fresh, but YOU WILL SMELL LIKE A WET DOG IF IT GETS WET. I promise.
It keeps me perfectly warm, whether I wear a t-shirt underneath or not. Don't need any other sweaters, unless it gets really cold.I ordered a Small, which is pretty snug, and I'm 5'7" at 135lbs, so make sure you get the correct size. If you get a size too small, it probably won't fit. Also, the hood is not one of those loose, flappy ones. It's meant as a base layer, so it sits tight around your head. Great for warmth, but it makes you look like you're getting ready for a deep sea dive. The wool does exactly what they claim it does, washes easily, dries quickly, doesn't retain smells (much). Weighs just a little bit more than a t-shirt.
