Color darker than pictureI like Hokas, I have five now, mostly trail shoes. I got into it because I have chronic back problems so I decided to buy the brown one for work to look less like a sneaker. Sadly the color is not as nice as in the picture. It is a dull brown and so are the soles. The picture looks 'brighter' and a lighter brown, almost dark tan. The one I received is dull and not as vibrant. Otherwise, it is a Hoka. Still a good product, soft, helps my back but if you are buying because of color, don't expect it to be the same as what you see on your screens.

Cheap Looking AppearanceThis shoe looks much better in the online photo than the actual shoe. They used a phony leather synthetic material that does not match the color of the leather. The photo online makes it look almost like a full leather upper, it is not. I really enjoy the cushioning in Hoka One One shoes, but I probably will not buy another pair for casual use because the shoes are ugly and cheap looking. At the price, this should have been a full leather upper, they doctored the photo to give the shoe a better appearance than the actual shoe. Don't be fooled.

Awesome shoe, bad tongueGreat shoes, love the clifton for road and challenger atr for trails. I am an ultra endurance runner and these both work perfectly for me. The one thing I don't like is the new tongue. I agree the old one was flimsy so I can see why you changed it to a more substantial one, but it is too stiff and digs into my foot and is uncomfortable. I have tried to find the Clifton 1's to buy as I really dont like the tongue on the Clifton 2, but I can't find any so I will have to live with the new tongue. Love everything else about the shoe though.

Not for hikingI needed a new pair of hiking shoes and decided to try these out based on the saleperson's recommendation - he was an avid runner, however, and not a hiker. I took these shoes out for a few short hikes and walks on flat and well maintained trails (~1hr excursions) to break them in and they performed fine. However, once I actually ventured into the mountains and hiked for any period of time longer than 2 hours my heels and ankles began to hurt badly - worse than I have ever experienced. I have no prior foot injuries and have been an avid hiker for years so I do not think it is an issue on my end. The shoes simply are not meant for long hikes on rocky terrain. I tried them twice (9 and 12 mile hikes respectively) and both times I returned in pain. I will be returning these shoes.

Not quite wide enoughI was looking for a shoe for every day casual wear, particularly for winter and light snow. Too bad they turned out too narrow, but excellent cushioning though. Just a little wider please. And a little more room in the toe box would help too. I'm used to Eccos. Valor turned out to be barely wide enough, wearing black for work use. Excellent on slab floors. I don't feel the floor at all. Hoping for more color choices in the future (Valor), and also for casual dress shoe line as well.

He can keep running with these shoesMy husband has some lifetime annoying problems with his feet which thankfully haven't stopped his active life. However now in his late 60's he has needed foot ware to help him continue his weekly running as well as everyday use. I didn't appreciate the colors he selected after he discovered HokaOneOne . For his birthday I found this nice brown shoe and I think I am happier than he is. He said they are just the same wonderful performance as the other more colorful ones.

Sturdy, yet light and comfortableWanted to use this as my everyday shoe for informal work, but ALSO as my travel shoe to international meetings and such. Wanted to be able to travel with ONE pair of shoes -- BUT the orange stripe prevents me from doing this, and I may need to travel with a 2nd pair of neutral looking shoes. This is major hassle because I need a shoe with great cushion like this shoe, but to also pass as informal dress shoe. Wish you had a neutral (not striped) version.

This shoe is AMAZING!!I use these for speed hiking with a 40 pound pack. They break in immediately, have soft a feel under the sole on even the sharpest rocks yet have amazing traction up hill and down hill. Much more stable than I thought when I saw how tall they are. They'll easily add 1.5 inches to your height. If there's a downside at all it's that you may toe-catch at first while you get used to the height but that goes away quickly as you adjust. Very rugged shoe!
