The Soulo 1 Person Tent by Hilleberg. The Soulo is an intriguing combination of a number of design attributes. As with Hilleberg's solo tent Akto, it has a roomy vestibule; as with Hilleberg's Unna, it is fully free standing, and is roomy enough that if you want more vestibule space, you can get it by disconnecting a part of the inner. And like Hilleberg's ultralight high altitude, mountain assault tent Jannu, the Soulo is tremendously strong - it has a stout 3 pole/3 crossing structure - as well as remarkably light, thanks to its Kerlon 1200 outer tent fabric and 9 mm poles. As a result, the Soulo is wonderfully suited for all season use in both exposed and/or above tree line terrain, as well as in more protected conditions. And like the Unna and the Allak, it has a compact, fully free standing footprint, and so is excellent for tough pitching conditions like knife-edge ridges, rocky ground, and wooden-floored sites found in some parks. It is certainly light enough for mobile journeys, where you move your camp every day, while its dome structure imparts superb snow load handling ability, making it a fine choice for most base camp use.

Since the Soulo's free standing construction allows it to be pitched almost anywhere, and since it is remarkably light and tremendously strong, it is ideal for almost any adventure. During its development, nearly every tester found it perfect for whatever trip it was used on. Mountaineers, both recreational and professional, will take to its strength and low weight, as will backcountry hunters and winter campers. Bicycle, motorcycle and paddle tourers will choose it for its free standing simplicity and compact packed size. Backpackers in all seasons, long distance trekkers, and weekend hikers alike will be drawn to its light weight and integrated vestibule, and ski tourers and ski mountaineers will appreciate its snow load handling. Tall users will love its length, and all will appreciate its remarkable overall roominess.

FEATURES of the Hilleberg Soulo 1 Person Tent

  • Outer tent fabric is Kerlon 1200 and the poles are 9 mm, which makes the tent very lightweight, strong and stable
  • All season construction tent wall can be extended to ground and the mesh area is backed with an adjustable fabric panel
  • Dome construction with multiple crossing pole points provide excellent stability for snow-load handling capability
  • Used ideally as a one person tent
  • Separable inner and outer tent for simultaneous pitching
  • Self supporting dome design requires no pegs for pitching
  • Tent contains pole system that makes for quick and easy set up
  • Single entrance tent with single vestibule configuration allows for easy entrance and storage space
  • Add an optional footprint that will cover the outer tent area including the vestibule. It can directly connect to the tent, and can be attached while pitching.
  • The complete tent's outer or inner tents can be used separately. For the pitching the inner tent alone it requires optional pole holders.
  • Designed for short and long trips in less harsh environments and conditions in all seasons like the forests in winter and summer
  • Great for withstanding heavy storms, but the lighter weight is not ideal on super harsh extended trips
  • Capable of withstanding heavy storm conditions, and the lighter weight is why some experienced hikers take this along instead of a more durable, heavier tent
  • Outer tent goes all the way to the ground for awesome all weather protection
  • Designed using lighter weight zippers as well as lighter weight inner tent and floor fabrics to keep the weight at a minimum

Hilleberg Red Label Tents

Hilleberg Red Label Tents
Red Label Tents are built for both short and longer trips in generally less demanding conditions in all seasons, such as less exposed mountain terrain, forests in both winter and summer, and the like, but where you still may encounter severe situations. Their emphasis on lighter weight makes them less than ideal for harsh environments and extended adventures in demanding conditions. They are, however, quite capable of withstanding heavy storm conditions. Experienced users sometimes choose these tents for more demanding adventures because they knowingly accept the trade off of strength for lighter weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never felt unsafe in this tent. It is not the lightest tent around, but it can take a beating like few others. The three intersecting poles make for a sturdy construction. Setup is easy, even in foul weather, and since the inner goes up at the same time as the fly, it stays dry. Condensation is not a problem. It can occur in really wet conditions, but never in the inner. Adjusting the vents are a breeze. A groundsheet is optional, but helps prevent condensation if the ground is really wet. The vestibule is big enough for gear and light cooking. Have used the tent in really nasty weather and slept like a baby feeling nothing but safe. Like all Hilleberg tents the quality and workmanship is excelent. Pricey, but worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best light weight 4 season solo tent I was skeptical about spending more than $500.00 on a tent and getting additional value and not just a brand name. I came across hilleberg while researching 4 season tents online. There are not many places you can see this product in person which was really nerve racking when I pulled the trigger. I don't think i would have bought it if Hilleberg didn't have the pitching viedos and extensive specifications posted on their site. The three most important attributes of the tent that sealed the deal are: - self supporting - entry vestibule - bath tub floor I was a little skeptical about the packability and ease of pitching. So far I've used this tent on two expeditions. In the humid deciduous forest of the notheast and the dusty high desert in the western states. In both climates the tent performance was flawless. The rain is no issue and the multiple tie downs remove dangers of high winds. The provided stuff sack for the tent and poles was much bigger than i needed. I removed the poles and stakes (each provided with their own bags) and packed the tent into an 11ltr. Compression sack. This makes the tent extremely small relative to its performance and function. The three poles fit in outer pockets on my pack and the stakes are small enough to pack in accessory pockets. The pitching it actually quite easy. Two primary reasons for this- 1 the poles are extremely high quality and the elastic cords within are have excellent tension. 2 the poles are not fed through long sleeves but slipped into end pockets and then connected to the tent fabric with clips. Since the tent is self supporting you can pitch it anywhere and the tie down lines allow to tie off to rocks if the surface you are pitching on is too hard to stake. I did purchase and attach the hilleberg ground sheet before both trips. I think its essential for the function of the entry vestibule and it helps protect the inner tent. With an investment as large as this, I believe every effort should be made to prolong the operating life of the product. In summary - packability can be achieved by purchasing a compression sack. Pitchability is the easiest I have ever experienced. So far all field use has proven the performance and function claims made by hilleberg. I am so impressed with this product that I am getting this as a gift for someone else later this year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you want a solo freestanding tent that does what it says on the can, this is the one for you I've used this tent for seasons without any problems whatsoever. The snow just gets shed whilst the wind can try to make a dent in it's fly - but can't. You may even find that you don't really need to use all of the guys unless it gets up a hoolie in the night.,,,,Ventilation seems to be a bugbear to some folk but I've never found this to be a problem - sure there may be a little moisture on the fly's inner - but not on the inner as long as you use the numerous ventilation options. The inner goes up and down with the outer saving one heck of a lot of time and effort.,,,,The Akto is lighter and smaller, but the Soulo is so stable that you can take it up the mountain in all seasons. I love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No need for avoiding to set-up in rain! A big difference from others will be the Hilleburg's original (smart) standing-up system; both fly and inner will be raised at same time, so the inner never surface in rain and won't be soaked! Also it's little heavier than the other solo tents, but if a bad weather condition would be expected, Soulo will definitely be one of the best choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bombproof Solo Shelter My go to tent on solo excursions deep into the Wind River Range or Sierra. This tent is heavy for a solo shelter, but it's freestanding, a breeze to setup, and worthy of withstanding nature's fury a. Having comfort and peace of mind while traveling solo makes the weight and $$$ of this tent completely worth it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as the AKTO I'm a huge fan of hilleberg. I have been using their tents for almost 10 years. I am familiar with and/or have been inside or used almost every product in their 2014 catalog (with the exception of the blue label stuff). The reason I dislike this tent is because hilleberg makes a better, cheaper, more durable, lighter alternative that is arguably one of the best single person shelters available which is the Akto. I can see why people would chose this over the Akto but after spending two nights in this tent I couldn't believe how much better my Akto performed in wet/windy conditions. I'm also not crazy about the vestibule as I think it could have been designed with more features integrated (like a place to cook). Overall it's certainly not the worst tent, but for that much $$$ buy a better hileberg like the Akto,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Atomic...Bombproof I was reluctant to spend this much on a tent, but I wanted to own a 4 season tent that could withstand whatever the mountains could throw at me. I am very pleased with my decision to purchase. There are several videos detailing this tent much better than I can in this review. If you want a tent that will most likely outlast your time on this planet, go ahead and pull the trigger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bombproof Fabulous tent. Quick setup. Considered other solo Hilleberg tents but went for this for 4-season capability, superior in strong wind/snow. Little heavy but worth the peace of mind. I'm using for canoe camping and backpacking in northeast. Excellent design and execution...very well made with attention to detail. Go green and disappear.
