I used my Helinox almost daily for the last 5 months living in the mountains in NorCal. It is an amazing design and extremely comfy, but I just recently noticed that the internal bungee cords are beginning to fray quite badly, to the point where I can foresee them breaking within the next few months. I can imagine that the company that makes them knows about this issue and hopefully they're searching for a better material.
I bought this chair for my husband. It needed to be solid and sturdy for him; he's a big guy. He loves it and says it's supercomfortable and very light for hiking. I just bought a second chair for my oldest son as he and my husband will be doing a big hike in the summer and wouldn't hike without it!
This thing is awesome for some low key car camping, the days of folding up sleeping pads is over! I like this one a little more than the competitors just for the face that it seems a little more heavy duty, it's a little wider which is nice as well. Folds up into a small package which is also a dream.Too much for backpacking though, well at least coming from someone with an ultra light view.
Got a couple of these and I must say they are absolutely fantastic. Got nothing but "wows" when friends saw how small this thing packs down to compared to those massive chairs that can hold a beer in the arm rest. Isn't that what the top of a cooler is for? I can easily strap 2 of these to my Kelty pack frame for a great day hike. I tip I found and use are to place tennis balls on the feet of the chair to keep you from sinking into the sand or soft soil. Overall after sitting in this baby for hours on end, it's a great asset to my gear.
Great chair! It packs up small: this chair & a Helinox Table can fit into my Osprey Daylite with room for an Alite Mantis chair. I took all that to Ravinia for an outdoor summer concert. With the Helinox Table, you get a side table with 2 integrated cupholders.Setup & tear-down is a breezy. It may take a minute or so longer than with large camping chairs, but you can't beat the size when packed away, especially when wading through a crowd at the end of the evening. If you have bad knees or difficulty getting up, you might want to see if you can check this chair out before investing some $$$ on it. It is lower to the ground (about 12-13”) than some camping chairs. However, compared to the Alite Mantis, it's slightly higher. The legs/feet hold up well, but on softer ground (sand, wet dirt, etc), it will sink. You can avoid it by placing something with a wider surface area under each leg (e.g. disc).A great chair that is not only convenient, but a fun conversation piece.
This is easily the comfiest camp chair I've ever sat in. The package for it is actually rather small maybe too heavy for backpacking but that all depends on what else you bring. It is not as tall as a normal camp chair but you'll hardly notice the difference. sometimes I wish the back rest would be higher but it's still an amazing product and I do not regret the purchase.
I bought it to camp with, but use it around the house for the kids EVERYDAY! It is so light, yet so strong and durable. It cleans up super-easy. They stack, assembled, very easily too. Now for the camping usage- these pack down small enough that I've brought them to parades (the kind where the head guy is a giant mouse), to sporting events, oh and to camp in the tent. I like the mesh behind your back and on the sides of your lap, while sitting... makes for a cooler experience in hot circumstances. This chair is COMFORTABLE and is a great height for a 5'7 up to a 6'2 frame (can't speak for any others). The corners, where the material supports the chair when placed on the extended aluminum "pipes" is very strong. I have no concern of this wearing out any time soon... as I've said, we use it practically daily and they look as if they are brand new. I wish these had been in existence while I was in college.... would've been great in a dorm room. I recommend Big Agnes Helinox chair highly!!
After hiking all day, the last thing I wanted to do was sit on the ground. The Helinox chair is really comfortable, so comfy you don't want to get up to finish setting up camp. I like the fact that it keeps you off the ground and is the perfect height for me when getting up and down. I love the fact that when I stop for 15 minutes or so to take a break, i can put the chair together (in less than a minute) and put my pack in the chair, keeping it off the ground. The other use (which I love) is I use this to prop myself up in my tent. I don't insert the legs into the brackets, and laying the chair on its back I can sit in the chair, in my tent in comfort. Multi usese!!
"Good things come in small packages .. .at least when dealing with compact camping chairs"
It's very stylish in black and neon blue, it's super light and easy to take along but don't order yet there's more. Complete with it's own nifty zippered carrying case the Helinox camp one chair packs small and provides excellent comfort. Assembly is straight forward the aluminum legs, internal cording that holds them together, and plastic hubs all seem to be of very good quality. The legs snap into the plastic hubs in such a way that assembly really cannot be performed incorrectly. Breakdown is just as easy and the provided carry case is large enough so that putting the chair frame and cover back into it are not frustrating. While I would not say it is as comfortable as a full sized chair the comfort level is more than adequate for me. I am 6', 225 and feel secure in this chair. It sits a little low and you tend to sit in a laid back position more so than a standard chair but it is supportive. I have only used it for two weekends camping, six total days but I never felt uncomfortable.
