Best Hiking Boot EverOK- for those of you who have bunions, do not saunter along the keyboard to order these boots. Do your feet a favor and let your fingers fly to order them. These boots were wear-ready out of the box and I actually heard my feet give a sigh when I put them on. Also, Gore-Tex and Vibram sole. What's not to like? As for durability, I haven't had them long enough to really make a case for that; for the sake of getting this review published I'm giving it a 5. If these boots turn out to be not so great in the durability department I'll come back and revise.

Worth the money to be pain freeI began having trouble with my bunions about a year ago, so much so that even short hikes were extremely painful. I require ankle support, so trail shoes were not an option. I wasted lots of time, and some money, trying to find and tweak boots to fit; with frustrating results. I could hardly believe it when I found these boots, specifically made for folks with bunions. Then of course there was the sticker shock, and the fact that these boots are difficult to find in the US. Luckily I found them here at Moose Jaw, and I was able to take advantage of a sale.
I wore these boots pretty much right out of the box for a 12 mile weekend backpacking trip on the A.T. Not only did I have no foot pain, I had zero leg fatigue! I have worn them pretty much every day since I got them. They're so comfortable that I decided to leave my old, painful, winter boots behind for vacation in Jackson Hole a couple weeks ago. Instead, I insulated my feet with base layer and wool socks, and wore the boots on a couple snowshoe hikes. My feet stayed warm and dry. Best of all, I was pain free.
I am really glad that I coughed up the cash for these boots! I pray they will last a good long while.

Fit-no break in required1st time out I hiked for 6 miles without any issues. Nicest boots I have ever owned
Are these boots sized for thick socks or do I need to get a size larger?

Thanks for reaching out to us! While the Hanwag Alta Bunion Boots have extra space near the big toe joint, keep in mind that boots need to be tried on and fitted with appropriate socks in order to determine exact sizing as all feet are unique. Trekking and hiking footwear should fit comfortably, without rubbing. Check to see if the heel fits properly by trying the shoe on with the laces undone. If it's loose at the sides, the heel is too wide. You should also be able to measure a finger's width of space between your toes and the tip of the shoe.

Can these boots be waterproofed?
Asked by: mgchambers
Thanks for reaching out to us. If you're asking if Moosejaw has a service that will waterproof shoes, then I'm afraid the answer is no. However, if you're asking if these shoes have the ability to be waterproofed, then the answer is a resounding "Why the heck not?!?!?!" Yay! Hope this helped you out.
