my favorite helmet of all timeIf it fits you, this is the best helmet around-not the lightest, bit offers better side protection than those light bike style helmets. Also because it's a hard shell it can handle repeated impacts rather than having to be thrown away after getting hit in the head.it is widely adjustable, and the adjustment is simple-a wheel in the back, so it fits a lot of folks-great for ice climbing because you can add a visor to protect your eyes. It is also lower profile than other hard shell helmets ,and reasonably well ventilated.,,In sum, a low profile durable hard shell helmet, perfect for ice, rock and alpine climbing where you need repeated protection from falling debris. And the colors are awesome,,

Wow, What a Different Kettle of Fish Helmet?!I have read these other reviews carefully. Wow. I have used this helmet for 4 seasons here in Alaska. Since reading these reviews, I have tried to get my to slip like this. Darned if my will not do what they say their does. I have a theory on that. I climb with this in Alaska, so I am always wearing my little, just right thickness, Mammut beanie cap under it. I noticed that it said "One Size Fits Alles," so I got one, put on my beanie, and cranked the "rack dial" open, put the helmet on, and adjusted it. This, has always, literally, fit like a "condomina" on my head, a glove if you prefer. I have worn about 4 other climbing helmets and this is the only one I have ever had on my head that doesn't make me feel as if I were working in a coal mine, going down, down, down working in a coal mine, oopsy-daisy! I love it, but I wear a KoffenVarmer under it.

Poorly designed helmet that looks good but is functionally flawed.I bought this helmet last year to climb Mount Shasta with a couple of friends of mine. I am an avid outdoorsman, and have competed in all kinds of extreme events from 24 bike races to adventure racing. In addition to that, I have been working in the fire service and emergency services for the past 20 years and have a lot of experience with safety equipment and it use through all kinds of environments. Basically, if there is a type of helmet made for a specific rescue or outdoor purpose, I have probably used one or another. The reason I have gone to the trouble of posting all this is because of how disappointed I am with this product. I got it before my Shasta trip last year and tried it on. It just didn't seem to fit properly. I reread the sizing directions from Grivel and I had selected the correct size. It is not that the helmet is uncomfortable, it just simply slides off the head backwards with the slightest amount pressure on the front of the helmet. See 2nd review for further...
