An ideal choice for climbers who prefer the reduced weight and easy handling of an extremely technical tool that retains all the characteristics of a Grivel ice axe.
FEATURES of the Grivel Matrix Tech Ice Axe
Hot forged in durable chromoly steel
Shaft has a double bend at different angles increasing the head's opening and helping the wrist when in traction
Tungsten carbide tip
All climbing equipment is final sale. Sorry to be so mean about it.

Good value, fairly light alpine tool, good for technical ice, bad for bashingThis axe feels a bit lighter than other comparable axes, but the geometry feels just perfect. Compared to f.ex. the quark, it feels like the head of this one is a bit lighter, and the adze is much more useful. After having tried both, I'm very happy with having chosen this one, not to the detriment of the quarks however. If you're planning on only climbing vertical ice or dry tooling, this won't fail you but there might be nicer choices. For alpine trips, however steep, I'd take this one.,,,,The double-bend is interesting, has very good clearance and great swing geometry.,,,,I don't know precisely what this rubber handle just below the head is, maybe insulation for your hands for long low-angle ascents? Anyway, you can easily cut it off and replace it with insulated grip tape or whatever.,,,,tl;dr Great alpine tool, very good for nimble ice climbing if you're not hammering a dull tool at bullet ice. Grivel doesn't f*ck around.
