The Antiballing Plate by Grivel, with its patented "active" anti-bott is the most effective device made to prevent snow from balling-up underfoot. The injection-molded plate features an egg-shaped bubble that constantly flexes up and down to keep snow from stalling in the crampon frame and freezing to its rails. The new style of plate is available for G10, G12, G14, Air Tech and Air Tech Light crampons. The older style (black Latex) which functions in a similar manner albeit less effectively is available for the 2F and Rambo crampons.

"A must for the G10 crampons" 12/25/09
If you are using the G10 and don't have the antiballing plates, buy it and you'll see the difference.I bought this as a replacement for the originally delivered ones. If you do a lot of mountaineering in winter, these parts are the second to get used after the irons.
"Up and down Rainier good enough ?" 04/07/09
I primarily do winter hiking, backpacking, mountaineering and ice climbing in the Northeast United States; White Mountains, Adirondacks and Catskills. I summited Rainier in late May of '08. I have used the Grivel G-12's exclusively for these pursuits. If you wear the crampons you need the 'bots. I put these on after buying them and have forgotten about them, no worries, no losses.
"its the little things that make the day great and this is one of those little things" 11/26/05
these are just a have to have piece. after one day on the trail with them you will never take them off. they are worth every penny. i have a pair on my grivel g-14's and they gust make the day that much better.
