The Air Tech Racing Ice Axe by Grivel is a new version of the lightest, forged steel ice axe in the world. The shaft resists 280kg when tested according to the UIAA methods, and is finished with a new asymmetrical steel spike. The original Air Tech Racing was legendary for being the perfect blend of super light and super strong. (1 piece forged chromoly head). This new version adds a bottom carabiner hole and a bent shaft, both good things most other light axes don't have. The only axe lighter is the Camp Corsa and that's TOO light, IMHO. I've used the regular Air Tech (adds a rubber grip) for years, and it's my favorite axe. This version is easier to plunge into icy snow. Finally, Grivels are the most comfortable axes to walk with ("Cane position") because of the unique way the pick is set into the head.
