The Air Tech by Grivel is a superlight ice axe with a chromolly steel head that corresponds to UIAA norms for strength and durability; trustworthy for both casual and professional use. Air Tech´s lightweight can best be appreciated at high altitude where every gram feels like a kilo. Its forged chromolly steel head is hand polished, the teeth extend the entire length of the pick. A natural rubber grip covers the Ergal 7075 shaft. Air Tech is delivered with a technical wristleash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perhaps the best all-around general mountaineering ice axe, ever. After 15+ years this is still my #1 most recommended ice axe for all-around use.,, ,,Pros vs.other light axes:,,Light without being TOO light like the Camp Corsa. 1 piece forged chromoly head is the strongest, most durable on market. Pick angle sticks in water ice better than others, but still OK for self arrest. Head set down into the shaft (unique to Grivel) creates more comfy, wider surface to rest your hand upon while hiking. Biner holes in head AND bottom spike. Rubber grip=good friction and insulates while using light gloves. ,,,,1 Con: In some hard snow conditions, rubber grip causes slightly more resistance to plunging than smooth metal shafts like the Air Tech Racing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite general tool It's even better than my multi-tool (some days, at least). This legendary relic (since Grivel NA is kaput) earned its status by not being afraid to be 'chunkier' where it needs to be. Otherwise, it would be too ludicrously light, and no one likes anorexics. The rubber on the shaft is preferred for additional insulation, friction/grip, and shock absorption. If these characteristics don't enamor you, go the way of the Racing axe.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple is better. Tried this on glacier. little lightweight for making footholds/ladders.. but who does that anyway? I like that its simple, things tend to be very fancy with lots of rare extra stuff.. this on has everything i need and no more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Mountaineering Axe I first used this axe on a technical Raineer route and have been using it ever since. It is light but still has enough mass that when using it to cut off a cornice or other work it's not easily deflected.
