The Air Tech Evolution Ice Axe by Grivel is the new version of the famous Air Tech axe. The head, which is hot forged from a single piece of steel, has become an established alpine classic. The new shaft's gentle curve just below the head gives greater clearance and makes anchoring easier on any sort of terrain, whilst the lower straight part of the shaft will penetrate into snow with little effort. Also available with Slider, the new hand rest that slides to the top of the shaft when sunk in snow or to the bottom to support hand in traction. The huge success of the Air Tech Evo has encouraged us to create the perfect complement: an Air Tech with a hot forged hammer. The most advanced axe technology, all in under 500 grams! Both Axe and Hammer are the same weight.

Very serious, hard-working axe, from flat to very steep snow. This is one serious, rock-solid axe for hammering down pickets, adze-digging foot-placements for snow-seat belays, for steep but not entirely vertical routes on hardpacked snow. It penetrates softer ice, but don't trust it too far on vertical hard ice.,,Great tool for hard work and various uses. The sliding pinky rest works very well when you're pulling yourself over ledges and it stays put on the head when you're just walking with it.,,,,If you're buying an axe for years of hard work and abuse, this is one of the stronger contenders.

Lightest Real Axe On the MarketArrived as described. Have not had a chance to use it at altitude yet, but it is much lighter than my 29oz axe I had in the past. This axe is known for its legendary durability. Don't take my word for it, theres millions of reviews online.
