"Excellent pack. This was the perfect choice for european cross-country trip." 12/20/11
I bought this pack for my 22 year old son who was heading out on a european backpack trip this past fall. He was not sure exactly what to expect. The Gregory Whitney 95 worked great for him. I was amazed at how much he could pack into it. He told me his favorite component was that the availability of straps to tighten the load to keep it from shifting was great. We ended up going on a caribou hunt in late September and my son used this pack. Caribou are not as massive as moose but one front quarter and one hindquarter fit well and packed back to camp two miles comfortably. The only negative my son came up with was it was too big for a carry-on.
"This packed worked well while climbing with a bit of "custom" adjustment." 10/18/11
I used this pack for an 8-Day Alpine Ascents Mountaineering course on Mt. Rainier in June, and it functioned well. After adjusting the pack with the included instructions before starting the climb, I had to make some "custom adjustments" on the fly to adjust the waist strap in order to make it cinch tighter Before doing this, the pack rode bad on the first day hiking, and wore me out. After making this adjustment, it worked much better. Other than that, the pack was easy to get into, and fairly comfortable. The padding was nice, and if anything, the only additional thing I could have asked for would have been more compartments.
"If it ever dies, I'm buying another one immediately." 01/18/11
I've had this pack forever. Though it's not women specific, I find it to be very comfortable. I'm 5'8", 130 lbs, and a small fits me perfectly. I've used this pack for trips ranging from a week to six weeks, and packed 90 lbs. worth of gear into it. The only straps that have blown after years of abuse are the ones that attach the brain to the main body (pretty easy to repair, unlike if it had been one of the shoulder straps). The best feature is the all the different access points to the inside. You can access almost anything without pulling everything out. AWESOME PACK.
"Would buy again" 11/14/10
Bought this bag so I can climb Mount Rainier in June '11. Spent a couple of days testing it on the Appalachian Trail. I will recommend to follow the instructions on how to properly adjust the staps and waistbelt. After about a mile in, I realized I had not done that properly. I adjusted and it was great. It was a piece of cake to carry the 45 lbs after that. I do wish the zipper door for the sleeping bag was just slightly larger. I could not fit the pillowtop mattress of a sleeping bag I have even though I used a battering ram to get it into the compression bag. BUT, would I recommend it?....Yes. Great bag. Built very solid with a nice, thick and cushy waist belt.
"the velcro hold-ons on the back of the pack dont work" 09/22/09
every other pack on the market uses buckles to hold tools on to the back of their packs.the exception is Gregory - they use 2 small stips of velcro on each side. velcro doesnt hold ice tools, snow shovels or trekking poles to the back of the pack - in fac it hold nothing. as you walk the velcro keeps coming undone and your tools fall off. you get the constant aggravation of picking up your stuff off the ground or having it swing and dangle behind you as you walk. not much fun.these are now made in China - who thought of using velcro on a $399 pack?
"Great pack" 05/07/09
It's really well made with tons of access points and features. It feels really great around the waist and has a ridiculous amount of space. If you're a real hiker who needs to bring the pots and pans, a tarp, a stove, sleeping bag, sleeping bag, etc, you need a large pack and this is one of the largest at 5800 cubic inches (M).
"Buy this pack for extended journeys in the wild." 08/18/08
Love it!!!!!! This pack has lots of room and the zippers are for the most part h2o proof. Store personnel were very helpful in sizing the pack and I would recommend this pack to anyone looking. The JAW rulez!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
"GREAT pack that no one should be without" 07/14/08
This is such as awesome pack. It is my first extended trip type bag, and it will be my last if it continues to put up with all the punishment I throw at it. It is extremely versatile and comfortable at the same time.
