"Professional Grade - worth the price and weight" 01/09/11
I couldn't find any "bad" reviews for the Denali, except for it’s weight. However, this is due to this packs ability to distribute/stabilize loads + good materials. If you're hauling 75lbs, what's an xtra few lbs of base-pack weight, especially if it makes the 75lbs feel like 25?I have a 17" torso = Small pack, but got Med shoulder straps / hip belts. My first impression: This thing is pro- grade. The materials are all heavy duty, ample stitching, zippers/buckles/ webbing/mesh/ etc are all heavy duty. My 1st trek was 9 mi with 45lbs (no issues). Subsequent treks, with loads up to 75 lbs & the pack still feels great. My body doesn't nearly get as fatigued or sore as with other packs.
"A Load Hauler" 08/18/10
This pack has room for everything. That's both the good news and the bad news. After you empty it out and pick it up, you spend 5 minutes looking through the pack trying to figure out where that 5 pound rock is hidden. Also, being the guy with the big pack usually means you're the guy that has room for that extra bottle of fuel or sack of potatoes.
"10 years and still going strong!" 01/25/10
I love this pack. I flew it around the world in '00-'01 and it worked like a champ. I regularly have it loaded to the gills with 80+ pounds and it feels great. its been 10 years in activity and it still works like new, minus the little bit of dirtiness of course. Ill be taking it back to New Zealand in a few months and I know it will be the best pack I could ever have.
"Great Pack! Very versatile." 01/10/10
I bought this pack with thoughts of using it in a variety of conditions from Alaska to the Appalachian Trail. It is easily adjustable and the compression straps allow adjusting from around 4500 to 7000 cu. in. with the large pack size. I agree with other reviews that I've read: the zipper for the sleeping bag compartment is too small for an expedition bag. Bags must be loaded from the top. Overall a great bag for the $. I liked the fact that it was made in the good old USA as well. From what I could find, this was the only Gregory bag in this class that was not made elsewhere!
"Durable big load mountain pack" 10/31/09
Will carry fairly large loads without discomfort, yet cinches down for use as a day pack. Likely struggle a bit with loads much over 80 lbs., however. Durable and construction quality seems good; has a a reputation for developing squeeks. The main criticism of this pack is the sleeping bag compartment: the access is small. Winter bags have to be dropped in from the top. Neither are deal breakers though. One of the better chices among mountain packs. 4/5 stars.
"For big loads this is a great pack." 06/27/08
I used this pack on a recent trip to climb Denali. It was by far the most popular pack on the mountain, and for good reason. It performed perfectly and was very comfortable with 60-70 loads while pulling a sled. The only improvement I would suggest is to enlarge the opening for the sleeping bag.
