The Gregory Alpinisto 50 is an alpine pack for hauling gear. The pack doesn't stop there, it is quite versatile as well, allowing you to strip it down at your base camp for a summit push in the wee hours of the morning. The backpanel is tough and durable with comfy shoulder straps and harness for the heavy load. Just remove the hipbelt, HDPE framesheet, bivy pad, and top lid and suddenly you're ready for the trek to the top. The front of the pack has a crampon-specific pocket made of extra-durable fabric so they won't ruin the rest of your gear. Strap on ice axes, and add additional gear via the extra loops as necessary. This beastly pack can even carry skis at an A-frame! Sounds about time to take on the mountain.

Great pack for climbing!Just came back from a few days ice climbing in Cogne and had a chance to test it. The 50L was a little overkill for day trips, but at same time it was not a bulky bag so it was nice to know that I could use same bag for longer trips if I need it.,,,,The axe attachments take a little time to get use to it, when hands are cold and wearing gloves what it seems like very easy task to do, takes a little longer. Maybe it was the type of tool I was using, but the it took some effort to get the metal "thingies" through the wholes in the tool.,,The little pad included came in handy if you want to take a break sitting in the ice,,The hipbelt padding and belt was a little tricky to remove, so I ended up just clipping the belt to the front of the bag so it wouldn't get on the way.,,Very comfortable even carrying heavier loads.,,The color looks great!,,

Great new mountaineering pack!A very impressive new mountaineering pack from Gregory! I used this pack to summit Mt. Pisco in Peru and it exceeded my expectations. It's got great, thoughtful features and is very comfortable. Check out this video review I made of this pack:,,,,http://www.backpackersreview.com/gear-reviews/backpacks/89-gear-review-gregory-alpinisto-50-backpack

Best Alpine Pack EverI own the old Alpinisto 35 and put my own side zipper in. Now that the update is lighter, has a side zip, crampon pocket, better helmet cut out and tool attachment I returned my REI Pinnacle 50 and grabbed this one. The size is great for ice climbing or over night. I do like to have a hip belt pocket but all in all this is the best pack around.
