The Escape AC 60 L Pack by Granite Gear. The EscapeA.C. 60 is built on our new Air Current suspension, using Cordura brand fabrics, making for a comfortable ultralight pack that's durable and loaded with features.Escape A.C. suspension is the next step in the evolution of ultralight frame technology. It's similar to our award winning Vapor suspension, however, instead of being a flat sheet with flat foam, the Air Current consists of a molded sheet and a molded foam pad. Not only does it fit the 3D contours of your back, and is engineered to flex with your movement, the Air Current suspension has integrated air channels, which makes for a cooler carry.The Escape pack body is a top loader with a floating lid. On the pack's front, there's a large stash pocket with stretch panels that can accommodate much of the gear you need to have close at hand. The pack's LineLoc compression system stabilizes the load without adding much weight. The side pockets are flat, covered with a stretch bottle pocket that's angled perfectly for bottle access without taking off the pack. There's also a pocket that perfectly accommodates our Cloud Cover rainfly (sold separately), so it's always ready in a downpour.

"Not at all a bad pack. Some odd bits." 03/15/11
Put 50K on this one in Iceland. It is a perfectly capable pack, but feels very much like a transition product between the Vapor Trail and the new Blaze AC 60. Good: lineloc compression works and stays taut; the air-mesh back panel isn't just marketing fluff; a massive exterior pocket is something GG packs have needed for a while. Meh: Very, very load-sensitive -- put heavy stuff central and high or you'll be feeling it. Why put a waterproof panel on a pocket whose sides are non-waterproof mesh? And the top-mounted zipper is just odd. Does another company have a patent on front-facing zippers that can be opened while walking, that GG can't use them?

I've used this pack for about 15 miles, half of it in the rain. It's replacing my Vapor Trail and Nimbus Ozone. It has the same great fit and comfortable, stable ride as those packs, but a better feature set: water bottle pockets on top of the flat side pockets, a back pocket (perfect for raingear) with a small pack cover pocket below it, and a lid compartment - all allowed me to perfectly organize my gear. The molded framesheet fit my back well, thanks to the foam on top. While it's a foam sheet, like the other GG packs, this is more of a closed-cell foam; it also works as a sleeping pad extender.
