It works OK, but . . .My only complaint is the time it takes to charge using solar alone. Using the USB charger, it was fully charged overnight and easily charged my goal zero lantern. However, I have been attempting to charge the unit via solar only and I can never get it above one blue light (after about 20 hours of sunlight exposure and no use). I will continue to leave it in the sun for several days, but if it does not improve, I will contact the company.
I will probably leave it at my cabin, in a window to maintain charge while I am not there, so it is ready if/when the power is out, and take it camping during the summer for extra light in my camper.

I bought this for the solar option as I seem to always be out on the road when my phone decides to die so I thought this would be perfect!!! Way wrong. I have left it on my dashboard and on the window sill for three straight days and have ONE blue light of power captured. NOT WORTH IT! I guess you need to harness the sun's energy straight to your device but what makes this worse is I bought three of these.
Do research before buying this I only asked questions with the salesperson but forgot for a moment they must work on commission and they pulled one over on me with the 'what it could do' well that would be great if it only did!

Versatile use! GOTTA HAVE!I gave one to each of my 3 children for their car and I have one in my car and a closet that doesn't get ambient light very well. It hangs with the wire clip and has multiple lights (direct, flood, and red) for multiple applications. It can charge with USB, has a built in charger, and when all else fails, you can crank the handle for immediate recharge. It can be used to charge other devices as well and you can charge the Torch 250 itself on your dashboard while driving. It is the best all-around flashlight that I have and I am ordering another one after this review! It is a "gotta have" item. Great for Christmas gifts as well. Something that they will really use!

So Very VersatileThis product is equally useful at home and in the field. Camping: great as an area light in a tent or to light up your food prep area; excellent as a flashlight for getting around in the dark; red light is helpful when stargazing to not destroy your night vision; solar let's you leave it out during the day and have it ready to go when you need it at night with USB in just in case; I haven't used the crank much but it's nice to know it's there if you need it; USB out is obviously handy. At home: The flood light is awesome for working under the hood; the spotlight has a nice color that let's you see what you can't with other white LED lights; the red is great for getting around the house at night without disturbing anyone.

Great Backpacking Asset!I purchased my Torch 250 before my 2 weeks camping/backpacking vacation. It worked great to keep my cell charged and as an all around light. When we had heavy rain I could stay in the dry tent with no hassle of recharging my phone at a campsite receptacle. While on Isle Royale for 5 days it served as my main flashlight and kept my iphone camera charged for plenty of pictures. I usually use a headlamp while backpacking but found on this trip the Torch 250 lighting versatility to be a plus. While it is a bit hefty in weight compared to a headlamp, I certainly did not mind the bit of extra weight. We had substantial rain while on the trip and the moisture did not cause any problems with the performance of the Torch 250. This is a great product!

versitile and dynamicWhen this items first went live and was spreading viral through facebook, I quickly jumped on the chance to purchase it. I have many products by GoalZero and I have been fortunate enough to follow them as they supported efforts in New York, the Philippines, and they have even shown love for the ALS community here in Ohio by being an annual sponsor of the Iron Horse Challenge. I was assembling a camping kit for myself and the kids and thought this would work nicely. I found it do be rugged, easy to use, great for around the house and yard, and perfect for working on the car or even as a power source AND light for night bike commutes. Love the multiple was you can power it up and I've had many friends pick one up after seeing me use it. A solid product.

Well built with optionsThis product is very well built. With a variety of options for charging, USB, Solar Panel, and Hand Crank. The device itself has 3 modes and each of those modes has 2 sub-modes. The light is surprisingly bright and well crafted. Also, with the USB input you have the ability to charge a cell phone via solar power as well as the other charging options listed. If you're looking for a well built, multi-purpose light with plenty of options, look no further. Goal Zero is really making some very nice products.

really cool, but has latex on it. :(i had been waiting for some time until i had the money to buy the Torch 250. but when i opened it i found that it had a rubbery feel to it. i emailed Goal Zero and they asked their engineers who said "Torch 250 does contain some latex".
i know not many people have a very severe (possibly deadly) latex allergy. but my s.o. does. so i returned it.
the only thing that i didn't like about it was it has latex on it. so i took off 1 star because i had to return it. i have no other complaints about it.
Is it correct to assume this is not waterproof? Also, is the attached usb charging cable replaceable if the cord fails?

Thanks for reaching out to Moosejaw! The Goal Zero Torch 250 power hub is weather proof, but not water proof. There are open ports that if water is to get in them, it will ruin them. The attached USB charging cable is integrated, but USB extension cables can be used at the open port for charging your electronics.
