The Ultra-Lite Poncho/Tarp by GoLite features built-in, tie down loops. So small you can take it anywhere, it is ideal for emergency kits and for ultra-lite backpackers dedicated to shaving every last ounce from their packs. A favorite of Team Go fast-packers Andy Skurka and Demetri Coupounas, the Poncho/Tarp utilizes Sil fabric for ultra-lite, waterproof durability, and features additional coverage in the back for protecting a backpack (snaps allow for folding up excess fabric when not in use).

"HUGE weight and space savings!"
          09/11/09
Talk about your bang for your buck! For something of this little weight and the size of a Discman (whatever that is) you can leave your tent, rain coat and pants, and packcover at home. It's not as comfy as a nice big tent, but worth the trade off if you like fast and light. I've set up in the lean-to, A-frame, and half-pyramid configs. and much prefer the half-pyramid for it's balance of protection and roominess. Learn a taut-line hitch, bring a little rope and a pole (or find a stick), a couple of stakes, and you're in business.

"Great Option for the Lightweight Backpacker"
          09/09/08
I used this to help me get my packweight WAY down. It works exactly as advertised. My only compaints are that a) a rainshell does so much better than a poncho in windy conditions or heavy vegetation, and b) its not a tent. But, if you want to cut weight, this poncho beats the hell out of a tent and a rainshell.

"Lightweight, easy, effective"
          07/25/08
Wow. I was packing for a 5 night climbing and fishing trip and needed to minimize my load for a 40 mile round trip. I was impressed with this simple shelter. It kept me dry in a deluge, afforded the best views of any tent I've used, and was as easy to pitch as it was to pack. It's listed as an emergency shelter, but when done right, this could be used anytime. If you're going somewhere buggy, you'll need to consider something like the Adventure 16 Bug Bivy to couple with it.

"But it."
          06/29/08
This review is based on one use only, but also deep thought considering the what ifs. Overall, a great product. Very light, and functional. Many snaps, loops and options for rigging as a poncho, tarp, or anything in between.

"LOVE IT!"
          02/07/08
This is a very light but very durable poncho tarp. I got it for christmas and I love it. Cuts a ton of weight from the pack because it does triple duty, rain gear, tarp and pack cover. If I know it will be raining I will throw in my TI Goat bivy to help with wind driven rain. As a poncho it fits well and is nice a long for a tarp. It can be set up many different ways which is very useful. For only 50 it is worth a try.

"No more caring rainsuits, small and light, backup or primary shelter"
          01/01/08
Excellent product! Got it for Christmas, and used it today. Took on a short day hike, it started raining so I set it up as a lean-to like pictured and cooked and eat lunch under it. This was so much better than cooking and eating in the rain! Poncho is strong, light, and small. I got the green color to blend into the enviroment better. Product works so well I thinking about using it instead on a tent on my next over nighter. Also it works well as using your backpack. 50 might seem alot to spend on a poncho,i used 10 before but it is totally worth it.

"Great multifunction gear!"
          10/30/07
A nice addition to my pack to make a subtraction of weight by removing my rain suit and tent. Quality seems top notch like the other pieces of GoLite gear that I own.

"I LOVE multi-use gear!"
          09/29/07
It's a tarp! It's rainwear! It's two products in one! A lightweight, well-made poncho with hood that is big enough to cover you and your pack on the trail and big enough to sleep under at night.

"Very well constructed, lightweight poncho with great features. I definitely recommend it."
          07/21/07
This is definitely one of the best ponchos available. It's very light and very durable. The webbing loops on every corner and side are tough and held up to very tight tension. It packs to the size of a grapefruit in the mesh bag that came with it. The sage green is great for stealth hiking/camping. I attempted to use this poncho as the rainfly for my Hennessy Hammock and found that under normal circumstances it works fine but with strong winds and blowing rain it doesn't cover enough rats! It works great as a tarp shelter as long as you guy out the hood as shown in the photo on Moosejaw.com otherwise it funnels water inside your shelter. The hood is a bit on the small side but works f

"Great product, nice gift idea."
          07/11/06
This product is the solution to a number of problems that I have encountered in my recent and fledging ultralight backpacking trips. It provides shelter for cooking, eating and relaxing during rain or at a campsight with little shade. It works as a large shelter for backpack, boots or pet when using a small tent with a minimum of interior space. The Go-Lite Ultra-Lite Poncho Tarp can also be used to wear during a hiking trip to protect the wearer and back pack from rain. This product serves many purposes at a very low weight and space penalty.
