The Fjallraven Maxi Kanken Bag is an expandable backpack for traveling, school, work, or the bike. The Maxi starts at 18 liters, and expands to reveal an extra 9 liters of space for days when you can't leave that extra item or two at home. The main compartment features a large zipper, so you can open it all the way to get at the right item without much fuss or shuffling. The front pouch will hold onto your pens, pencils, wallet, and keys so the main compartment doesn't swallow them up and make them disappear. A removable seat cover is secured in the back pocket, so you can have a reliable cushion for your bum at all times. Cold, hard chair in class or a waiting room? No problem.
FEATURES of the Fjallraven Maxi Kanken Bag

GREAT QUALITY BACKPACK* ROOMY & LIGHTWEIGHT & REALLY is WATERPROOF *I bought this Maxi Kanken for my teenager to use for both school and camping and she loves it!. She had the 15" Laptop Kanken last year, but it was too small to hold all her books & gear for this year. The Maxi is much bigger with the expandable back part. The lightness is better for her back (we tried on another brand that weighed 7lbs while still empty - Yikes! She got caught in a rainstorm yesterday and although the outside of the pack got drenched, everything inside was completely dry...Yay! ***One important thing to note - There's NO side pockets for a water bottle on the Maxi Kanken like there is on all the other sizes of Kanken backpacks. So, if that's important to you, you may want to get the Big or Laptop versions. :-)

Love it's simplicity!I bought this bag due to it's simple decision and ability to expand if I need it to. I am going back to graduate school and wanted a multi-purpose bag that I could use for school or even for traveling. This does both. It is light weight and durable. I also love the fact that it opens all the way down the front for easy access to everything in the large front pocket. My only disappointment with it would be that it doesn't have any side pockets, which would be very convenient for water bottles etc.

Light weight But......I travel a lot internationally and wanted to but lightest yet voluminous utility bag as my main cabin bag. Utility wise this bag lacks in big time. It should have had more compartments on the front or inside. Bit disappointed

A very good bagI purchased this back about one month ago. I'm a professional, recently enrolled in an executive masters program. Consequently, at times I need to carry textbooks with me that make my messenger bag a little too heavy to be comfortable. My wife recommended this bag. I think it was a good choice. It is sturdy and spacious. It is minimalistic with one large main compartment and a smaller exterior zipper pocket. There is ample room in the main compartment but you may need to purchase Individual bags or containers to keep smaller items separated. The Maxi version has an external zipper portion that opens to provide more room for the main compartment. It also conceals space for a laptop. The straps are comfortable for carrying even heavy loads, and there are two handle straps attached to the upper portion of the bag for carrying the bag like a briefcase. The construction material is sturdy enough but does easily become soiled, even with light use. It's as though it attracts dirt. I purchased the black bag which may display dirt more than a lighter colored material. I have only had this bag for a short while, but overall I am pleased so far and would recommend this back to others.
