Designed as a lightweight, casual off-road shoe, the D'Aescent Shoe by Five Ten pushes the envelope of technology by utilizing ONYXXT and a new manufacturing process that extends the sole into a thin toe and rand wrap to protect the forefoot. "Look great, stick to the ground" 11/28/11

These shoes are great, ridiculously stylish and of course will stick to pretty much everything with the Five Ten rubber. The only hit I'll give them is that they're reinforced (overly padded) at the ankles, which probably has some practical use, but looks a tiny bit odd when staring down at them. It's probably only something the wearer notices, but threw me nonetheless. I bought these half a size down (bought 11, normally buy 11.5 running/casual shoes) and they fit very well - maybe a TAD snug, but that's really the point with these as approach shoes.

"Could not be happier!" 08/18/11

I run the adventure programming at a local day camp and needed a new pair of approach shoes in which I could bum around camp and could also do some light climbing. These are perfect. Seriously. I'm not a big shoe guy. But if I could have worn these shoes to my wedding, I would have (sshh, don't tell my wife). The sticky Stealth rubber is great for daily top-roping and for teaching the camp bouldering class. Note: I've found that these shoes do stretch, so I would purchase them similarly to your climbing shoe size and expect for them to expand nicely.

"If you want a climbing shoe that you can dance in, get it!" 04/25/11

This shoe is super sick. Not only can you onsight any moderate slab on the walk to the boulders, but dang you can dance in it too (If you can dance in the first place, Notice: this shoe does not have magic dancing powers). But seriously the rubber is great, I mean its 5.10. I love the breath-ability of the mesh material makes those long hikes to the boulders better since your feet aren't on fire. The only down side is that the back loop attachment has ripped a little on one shoe (just untie them first). I will buy another pair.

"Not a Bad Shoe... Not that Grand" 04/07/10

These shoes aren't too bad. I bought a snug fit in case I wanted to do some light climbing in them. They look pretty good, not that great for standing around all day and not the best for hiking. They're not that bad for hiking on a sunny day on a smoother trail. If looks are your main concern I'd recommend them and I'd order a size up unless you do want to climb in them.

"Sweet shoe for daily wearing!" 11/26/09

I bought this shoe for walking/riding across campus and its perfect! I feel like i could climb anything anytime like spiderman, yet i still look super cool. DO IT!

"Very comfortable, but not sure of its purpose." 04/18/09

Very light, stylish and comfy shoe, but I don't think it should be classified as a light hiking shoe, not suitable for rocky, gravely terrain. It's good for around camp and some light climbing (sticky rubber and flex). I found myself wearing them untied and loose to class and riding my cycle around town.

"A great approach shoe." 02/18/09

If you don't mind wearing a shoe that doesn't have a ton of support then this is a great choice. The rubber is extremely sticky, it's comfortable, and you can easily wear this climbing and on the approach alike. Be aware though, the sizing is a little strange. I wear a 10.5 or 11 normally and I probably could have gotten away with wearing a 12. However, I wear my shoes tighter than the average bear so I went with the 11's.

"not everyday street shoe" 09/26/08

nice light shoe for approach and scrambling. wouldn't use as an everyday shoe for 2 reasons: 1. forefront of shoe is designed like a climbing shoe (not good for pavement with sand or ice) 2. it would defeat the point of a buying a shoe with the super sticky stealth rubber

"good approach shoe" 09/13/08

This shoe fits about a 1/4 size smaller than other brands. It is lightweight and breathable, plus it looks pretty sweet. I wouldn't wear it as an everyday shoe, because that would defeat the purpose of buying a show with super sticky stealth rubber. Also, the forefront of the shoe is designed like a climbing shoe, and wouldn't grip the best on pavement with sand or ice on it.

"Better looks and comfort than performance" 07/12/08

Nice skater style shoe. Very sticky rubber and its extremely light and breathable. This shoe fits my street shoe size just slightly snug. Very good cushioning as well. It is cut very low with a very soft heel. I really couldn't imagine any hiking in these and in any off road situation I would wear ankle supports. I wouldn't climb in these but scrambling would be an option.
