Awesome Rugged CoatFilson makes the best waxed cotton, period. The Seattle fit coats fit me perfectly. I like to wear this coat around town with thick sweaters and jeans and I get compliments all the time. It has just the right amount of pockets without going overboard. The jacket blocks the wind and they even include a can of wax so that you can keep the jacket waterproof for years. I look forward to having this coat last a lifetime.

Good coat, but beware with MoosejawI am a slim guy and I decided to order this handsome coat in medium after seeing it on sale here. For the past year or two Filson has sold this coat in their new fit, but Moosejaw sent me older Filson stock from a few years back. The medium was super slim and I couldn't fit in it, which was a bummer, as it wasn't advertised that I was receiving older stock. I returned it and decided to try ordering the large. Moosejaw sent me the large, but this time in Filson's updated fit! As a result, the large was much bulkier and dwarfed me and I had to send it back. As if this ordeal wasn't enough, moosejaw then got confused with my return and decided to ship me this jacket again! I had to call them up twice. In the end, they couldn't stop the third jacket being shipped, but they were kind enough not to charge me and just asked that I return it asap. All in all an exhausting ordeal. I would suggest not ordering Filson from moosejaw - just order it directly from the Filson website. It'll save you time and aggravation.

Hiya Shopping mom, thanks for your question! I would recommend a size Medium. By the way, if your son wants to wear this in the winter and needs some extra insulation, consider getting the Wool Vest Liner as well. It is zip-in compatible. You can find it here:
Hope this helps!
